The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 94V132000 (engine and engine cooling:engine). The manufacturer initially stated that the VIN was not included in the recall, but later stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired according to the recall. The contact owns a 2000 isuzu rodeo. The contact smelled the radiator burning. A mechanic stated that the thermostat failed. The current and failure mileages were 77,000

The contact owns a 1999 isuzu rodeo. While entering the vehicle, the contact noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. He then noticed that the wiring for the ABS underneath the hood of the vehicle caught fire. He poured water on the wires to extinguish the flames. A certified mechanic stated that a grounded hot wire inside the ABS pump caused the fire. The vehicle is currently at the contact's residence and has not been repaired. The dealer stated that they were not responsible for the failure. The current and failure mileages were 138,420
1(a). After driving at highway speeds (above 60 mph) the ABS warning light on the instrument panel nearly always comes on. This has ocurred hundreds of times. 1(b). When driving in slippery snowy conditions, after applying the brakes the ABS computer makes a loud buzzing noise that will not stop until the electrical connection to the 4 wheel drive ABS component is severed by either removing the negative battery cable from the battery or removing the fuse. This has ocurred many times, but only three times has it caused a loss of control where people were at risk of harm. 2. Under the buzzing condition noted in 1(b) above, the ABS braking system seems to fail, with less control because the brakes lock up, and steering becomes impossible. At least three incidents have happened where the vehicle ran into the curb with no apparant damage, greatfully no other vehicles or persons were involved. Each incident 1(b) has happened on weekends or at night after the dealer who services the vehicle is closed. 3. The dealer has found no problems, stating we must bring in the vehicle with the light on or the buzzing occurring in order to locate a problem. I belive there have been recalls on other isuzu models for the same problem, but not for the model or year of our vehicle
Dt: the contact stated the ABS activated at low speeds. While driving at 5 mph on slippery roads the contact's vehicle rear ended another vehicle during emergency braking. The ABS activation resulted in extended stopping distance. There was structural damage to the front end of the vehicle. The ABS continued to activate at low speeds. On october 14, 2005 the contact received NHTSA recall campaign 02i002000. The parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at the local dealership. The manufacturer confirmed the parts were not available
Suspension 192 Read
Contact was driving down a side road at 20mph when the contact heard a loud clunk and immediately lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun out of control and onto a curb where once stopped they were able to drive it into a parking lot but only in four wheel drive. Once inspected, it was determined that the rear part of the frame was so badly rusted that the rear driver side trailing arm and mount broke off the frame causing the rear axle to shift back in forth uncontrollably. When taken to a frame repair shop and state certified welder the frame and mounts were deemed beyond repairable and the vehicle completely unsafe to drive. Upon further inspection the rear frame was rusting out so bad that it was that it was no longer structurally sound. This is the same issue that isuzu recalled the 98-2002 rodeos in which were stationed in the nations salt belt. Many other owners are also having this same issue with the amigo's. This needs to be investigated as these vehicles in the salt belt are not safe to drive
Within the past few weeks we received a recall notice on our 2001 isuzu rodeo. I called the local isuzu dealer and was told that they have not received the "tech bulletin" nor the parts to fix the vehicle but they would call me when they could get our vehicle in. They said it was only a minor issue that required spraying an anti rust spray on a part of the undercarriage. Yesterday, 01/30/2011 the left forward mounting bracket ripped away from the frame causing our vehicle to go into a irrecoverable clockwise spin. My wife and 2 year old son were in the vehicle with me. My wife was struck by flying debris and got some scratches and bruises. My son was secured in his car seat but was struck by flying debris and he got a contusion on his forehead and a black eye. I was able to fight through the spin and we ended up in a ditch with no other vehicles involved. We were 5 minutes away from being on the highway at highway speeds. If this were the case there would have been no way to avoid a life threatening crash. These vehicles are unsafe and are rolling death traps. Isuzu has told me that this is a level 4 failure and probably my vehicle will not be repaired under the recall due to the extensive corrosion. They state in their recall notice that there will be an alternative remedy for these situations. When I asked what the alternative remedy was I was told that they have not figured out what they will be doing yet. This is unacceptable
Isuzu axiom 2002. My wife was trying to merge onto james river freeway in springfield, mo from hwy 65 n. It was raining but her speed was less than 40 mph. She attempted to accelerate to merge into the traffic pattern and the SUV spun out of control and sent us down a boulder embedded embankment of about 30 feet. The SUV bounced over the boulders and came to a rest at the bottom of the incline. Fortunately we were able to 4 wheel drive out, two ruined tires, and the front bumper assembly ripped from the frame. My complaint is this: there was no practical reason for the SUV to spin out of control. The SUV has only 45,000 miles on it. I think there is too much torque for the suspension system

The contact owns a 2004 isuzu ascender. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when the contact noticed a burning smell and smoke being emitted from inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the smoke came from the power switch for the front driver side door. The contact removed the cover for the door and power switch and discovered a burned power switch. Before the failure occurred, there had been a delay when the contact attempted to use the power switch to open or close the window. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repair shop for inspection or repair. The contact was concerned that the defective component would be replaced with a similar defective replacement component. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however no further assistance was provided. The approximate current and failure mileage was 138,000
2001 isuzu rodeo ls 4dr 4wd SUV, climate control fan switch stopped operating. The unit was removed from the dash and an investigation concluded the switch was overheated and caused it to fail. The entire climate control unit was replaced and worked fine thereafter. A year later in may of 2010, the unit stopped operating once again and a small amount of smoke poured through the dash where the unit is located. It was removed once again and the wire connection to the fan switch melted to the unit this time. I can not find anyone who is willing to repair it this time and have found several other forums online where other owners of this particular vehicle are having similar problems

I pressed on the gas pedal and the throttle cable didn't return to idle when I let off the pedal. The brakes would not stop the vehicle nor would pressing on gas pedal. Turning off the ignition is the only way to stop acceleration. I drove out of control through two peoples yards before coming to this conclusion
Dt: the contact stated 2001 isuzu trooper accelerated while in reverse, then he put the car in drive, it hesitated and surged forward while the brakes were applied. The vehicle left black marks in the driveway, went through the garage cans and through a fence in the backyard. All this time the brakes were being applied. Meanwhile ,the vehicle still had a wide open throttle, and was spinning in the grass. Finally, the contact was able to turn off the ignition. There was damage to the yard and fence. The contact contacted isuzu, and they said it was not suppose to do that. The car sustained $5400.00 worth of damage. No police report was taken

How we count
Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.
A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.
Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
