A bad generation shows up here as a block of years, not as a single spike. Recent years look quiet simply because those cars are young and still under warranty.

2019 Jaguar I-PACE · fire

I received a Recall Notice dated 7/18/2023. I reached out to the manufacturer to obtain the new battery. As requested, I took the vehicle to my local dealer at which time they verified with corporate that my car needed the new battery as noted. I was told that the car could catch on fire because of the faulty battery. I was, of course, afraid to drive the car with me or passengers. I made many calls and sent emails to two different corporate reps at Jaguar. Many calls were not returned and emails were not answered. I believe that my local dealer also reached out to corporate in my behalf. I was advised that the car should not be garaged or close to any structures. Because of this, my car was moved to the street. Jaguar never got back to me to send the new battery to my local dealer for replacement. Had they replaced my battery in a timely manner, the car would have been stored in a garage when not in use. Since the car was exposed to the elements for Safety reasons, it blew up during the hurricane Helene on [XXX]. I am very disappointed with Jaguar Corporate for not fixing my recall so that my car could be in a safe place during Florida hurricanes. I feel that Jaguar owes my the value of the new battery to enable me to buy a new vehicle. Please advise. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2005 Jaguar S-TYPE · fire

I was driving, and I smelled smoke so I decided to pull over. Upon closer examination I discovered that the smoke was coming from the garage door opener, which I never use! When I touched the cover for the garage door opener it was hot. Within a few minutes my car was filled with smoke, and a small fire began to burn in the top center console containing the garage door opener. I opened all the door windows, and also the sunroof to clear the interior of my car of the smoke. I managed to put the fire out by taking a sip of water from a bottle, and spitting it on the fire!

There car suffered damage to the front bumper, the hood and scratched the windshield and roof. I was not injured, but badly shaken by the incident. The vehicle has about 60,000 miles. On several occasions I've had problems with my 2000 s type jaguar. The transmission causes many safety problems. Such as not shifting, hesitation etc. Which could be a major safety issue while driving on the hwy. Once my fiance was driving the vehicle and the hesitation of the transmission caused him to slam into the curb causing major damage to the front end. I've also had the transmission gasket replaced at the dealership. Know its back in the shop awaiting a new transmission. Jaguar is not taking any responsibility of these problems. Several other jaguar owners have experienced similar problems. Thank you for your time. [xxx]

When parked in a parking lot, the vehicle started moving by itself. This had happen before on a different occasions. This time I could not get it to stop. Because of the accident that ensued, I cant remember a lot about the accident. The police believe I hit the post at 30 to 50 mph. Because of the jaguar proprietary information system" black box ", no one can read the data from the car but jaguar. That is kind of like letting the fox guard the hen house. All we want to know was if my foot was on the breaks which I believe while trying to stop. We believe this is a case on sudden unintended acceleration with know way to prove it because of the inability to retrieve the data

I believe jaguar should recall the fuel rail because the aluminum fuel rails corrode from the inside out from using certain ethanol fuels with low water content, which cause a pinhole that sprayed raw gasoline onto a hot engine which cause a fire. Those aluminum fuel rails were need to be replaced with stainless steel rails. My car was almost caught on fire due to a pinhole fuel leak which developed. And this occurred while stationary and moving the smell was so strong I had to drive with the windows down. And to make matters worst the fuel rail is no longer available through jaguar the part is obsolete so how can we have are car repaired if jaguar doesn't even carry the part ???

2020 Jaguar I-PACE

I am the owner of a 2020 Jaguar I-PACE, VIN: [INSERT VIN], subject to NHTSA Recall 26V067. The interim software remedy under campaign H570 has been installed on my vehicle, capping the battery charge at 90%. I reside in a designated fire hazard zone in Santa Monica, California, in a densely populated residential area. I contacted NHTSA directly on June 5th 2027 at appx 10:20 AM and was advised that it is still not safe to park the vehicle inside or charge it indoors, even after the H570 software update has been applied. However, the Executive Liaison at Jaguar Land Rover North America's Customer Relationship Center, Judianne Di Leo, stated in writing yesterday that, following the H570 update, all parking and charging precautions are lifted and the vehicle can be operated as normal. This directly contradicts the guidance I received from NHTSA. I submitted a formal repurchase request to [XXX] under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Jaguar Land Rover North America denied that request in writing, with no explanation or legal basis provided. The permanent remedy under campaign H572 remains open and under development with no committed timeline. I am filing this complaint because I believe Jaguar Land Rover North America is providing customers with safety guidance that contradicts NHTSA's own recall documentation, and because I am unable to safely comply with the parking and charging instructions in a fire hazard zone with no remedy INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT

I am investigating a fatal collision involving a vehicle fire of a 2006 jaguar s type 4dr sedan. The fuel filter is located inside the left front fender well and is not protected by any frame component. The fuel shut off switch is located directly behind the left front wheel well. The victim vehicle was struck in an offset head on manner on the driver's (left side), directly impacting the area of the fuel filter. The fuel line was torn off of the filter, and it does not appear that the shut off switch actually worked, thereby pumping gasoline onto the front of the car as it slid across the road. The car was quickly engulfed in flames, and the driver who was pinned into the car died as a result of the fire. My case # is [xxx]

2013 Jaguar XF · crash

On sept 27, 2013 around 7a.m., I drove my car to the mail box where I pulled over on a road with a slight incline and up on the rounded curb, put it in park, opened the door, walk along the side of the car, crossed in front to retrieve my mail. After getting my mail, when I turned around to go back to the car, I saw it driving forward and crossing the road towards the other side! Instinctively I jumped in the passenger side and was trying to reach the brake pedal when the car hit the curb, throwing me back a bit. The impact of the curb must have turned the wheels to the left and the car proceeded down an embankment and hit a tree which finally stopped the car. I contest that the car could not have originally been in drive when I got out of the car to retrieve my mail as I walked in front of it. I believe the gear popped out of park and voluntarily went into drive while I was retrieving my mail

How we count

Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.

A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.

Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
