I was driving on the highway going 80mph in 6th gear and my wife smelled something then the gears started grinding I put it in neutral as I was slowing down I was trying to get to the exit which was about 1/4 mile away so I put the truck in 4th and thats when the transmission exploded sending fire and transmission parts on the highway. I saw flames come out from under the vehicle and from the engine compartment, I told my wife to get out and we got everything that we could grab and within 5 minutes the Jeep was engulfed in flames

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee I was traveling on the freeway a few days a go when my truck decreased in speed somewhat. I pulled off the freeway to stop at a gas station. Once stopped at the light a thick plum of smoke appeared in the aft portion of the SUV. I pulled into the gas station with screams of your truck is on fire get out. I quickly placed the truck in park jumped out and the truck continued to roll out of the gas station onto the street hitting some local construction workers nearby equipment. The rear axle case was on fire. I grabbed a c02 tank from the gas station in an attempt to stop the fire. The detroit fire department had to come to completely extinguish the fire

Tuesday 11/11 my 2019 Jeep Cherokee was involved in an accident due to the PTU not working properly. In PA we had very poor road conditions due to snow throughout the night into the morning. When making a turn my car slid and hit a curb damaging the front right side of my vehicle. I do believe the safety of myself and others had been put at risk. While no one else was involved in the accident just me it could have been worse if it weren’t so early in the morning and little traffic on the roads. I had my vehicle in the Scranton Dodge and Jeep dealership about a month prior to inspect the issue and they were unable to fix it due to the part being on back order and my cars VIN not being specified on the recall for this issue. I was also told that my vehicle was safe to continue driving in the meantime which is not the case. I have had the vehicle inspected by a dealership and my insurance company was involved for the damages produced by the accident. The warning message has been on but no one has the part to do anything about it and like previously stated was told the vehicle was fine to drive. I had this issue inspected in the beginning of october. I have also contacted Jeep and they told me there is nothing they can do for me since my VIN is not specified. I bought this car to get safely to and from places during the winter months in PA and that clearly is not the case now. It is very frustrating being a full time student and paying on a car that does not do the job that it’s

1st issue: the dash gauges will go off and on intermittently. I have fought with this problem for years now. The dealer of course doesn't know what I'm talking about. Never heard of it. I have completely removed the dash looking for problems. Bad grounds? I can't tell where. I suspect the plugs the cluster slips into. I've tried to pull the mounts closer for a better connection. It seamed to work for a while. Then it comes back. A good sound beating on the dash brings them back on. Amazing what that plastic will take. All this started after the warranty expired. I refuse to take it in and pour money at it till they figure it out. All I want is to know how to fix the gauges. I'm about ready to cut the wires and solder them directly on. 2nd issue: I began smelling plastic burning or something. Later the heater fan quit working. After some reading of the service manual, I checked a lot of parts and found the control/selector switch unit heated up and partially melted the wiring harness as well as burnt inside the unit. Bought another and replaced it. Works great now. All the fan positions work again. This switch has to be replaced so often I just leave the screws from the center dash panel off. Every 99 jeep wrangler owner I know has the exact same problems. Does someone have to die before there is a fix/recall? Nothing like driving down the road and smell an electrical fire when you are 100 miles from anyone

2021 Jeep GLADIATOR · fire

I purchased this vehicle on May 25th. On june 4th it was parked out side my front porch and my house along with the jeep burned completely down. The fire was first witnessed on the front porch right where the jeep was parked. I was out of town working and had a friend there dog sitting for me. She and the dogs got out safely althoug she was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation and was released later that evening. The arson investigation is still on going. As of monday June 8th, Both the arson investigator and home insurnace investigator could not determine the origin of the fire. When the recall went public on june 11th i informed them of the recall and have not gotten much back from either of them. The scene has yet to be re-visted. I drove the truck maybe a total of 150 miles. The steering felt strange at times but i only had the vehicle for 5 days before i left for work. There is no solution from jeep. I would really like for a specialest to inspect the vehicle to determine if it did in fact set my house on fire

My son was involved in an unexplained car accident on 9/26/15 in our 2004 jeep grand cherokee. The crash resulted in extensive physical and fire damage to the vehicle and the loss of my son's life. It was a beautiful sunny day and the cause remains unknown. Shortly after I received notice that his vehicle was involved in recall r60 for unintended air bag deployment which could result in a crash. My son was a new driver and anything could have happened. I have contacted chrysler who informs me since the vehicle was totalled and disposed of prior to the recall they can not help me and I must contact the subrogation department to try to get my insurance company's money back. This is not my concern though I have notified my insurance company. I'm angry that this may be the reason my son is no longer with me and all I get is a so sorry, the car is gone, we can't help you. Well so is my son. ..updated 12/11/17 *bf

In 2016, my 2012 jeep grand cherokee laredo had about 38k miles when I found out that my vehicles rack and pinion had a "minor leak" that they service center recommended I "keep an eye on." this was something I really needed to save for because it would cost $3000 to repair and I had just purchased the vehicle! Less than a week later I was in an accident because I lost power steering while driving with my family. This forced me to replace the rack and pinion as well as further damage. This is pretty unusual for a car with mileage that low. Additionally, it is ridiculous that this issue hasn't been a sufficient impetus for investigation considering how ubiquitous that exact claim is among jgcl owners. These common claims suggest that the issue isnt caused by the driver, but is in fact, a manufacturers defect. Appropriately, the manufacturer is obligated to remedy this defect.. The consumer stated the alternator failed and caused a fire. The consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repairs as the vehicle exhibited the failure described in a recall. *js *js*dt

My name is [XXX] , and I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding the loss of my vehicle due to engine fire. The vehicle was a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, VIN [XXX] , with approximately 26,666 miles at the time of loss. I purchased the vehicle on May 13, 2021. The fire occurred on July 10, 2025. I was driving on the freeway, and my vehicle lost power and dashboard warning lights illuminated. When I pulled over, the engine was on fire. The fire department came and doused the flames but my entire engine was destroyed. After the fire, I retained legal counsel and initiated an independent investigation through Fire Cause Analysis in Berkeley, California. Their findings identified the origin of the fire as being linked to the power steering pump electrical connector. I later discovered that NHTSA has an open investigation identified as PE24024 concerning Jeep Gladiator engine fires which notes that the fires reported to NHTSA for this vehicle originated at the power steering pump electrical connector - coinciding with the finding of Fire Cause Analysis. How we count

Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.

A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.

Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
