Was parking car. Pushed on brake and car accelerated
While changing lanes on a freeway, the car passed through a narrow strip of slush from recent snowfall. The car immediately disabled the motors, preventing acceleration and regenerative braking for nearly 50 seconds. There were no warning lights, sounds, or messages displayed on the car's gauge cluster display, either…
While driving on a busy road at night, my vehicle displayed battery warning lights and went into "limp mode" which slowed me down to 25 mph before stopping completely. Incident took place 1/31/26. I was pulling into my driveway at approximately 5 mph. Normally, as I approach the wooden driveway gate, sensors would begin to beep and I would be prompted to stop. The car normally would stop itself if a collision was imminent. This did not take place. Instead, the car picked up speed,…
Most vehicles with ABS experience what I call “ABS shudder/jutter” when applying brakes across a road seam where the road surface is uneven or a rut in the road. In this particular case while applying the brakes across a long rut in the road, the “ABS shudder/jutter” was much worse. NOT SPEEDING and having plenty of…

The rear door of my KIA EV6 intermittently fails to open even when the vehicle is unlocked. Listing as all 3. ICCU/fuse went out, car decelerated to 45 MPH max and flashed a warning to pull over. The bottom left battery indicator for the 12v battery also changed to red, indicating it was not regaining power from the main EV battery. Currently in shop hoping to get part in soon
The brake lights illuminate too early and often under [even very] gentle deceleration. My '23 EV6 GT is driven primarily in Level 1 (minimal) regenerative braking mode and the threshold for brake light activation clearly is far too low. The appearance of "riding the brakes" is dangerous because those who follow are…
No distinct incident. The headlights on this car are very poor. My front visibility is extremely limited, especially to the right, since I got this vehicle in August 2022. I have had some narrow misses with pedestrians I couldn't see. These are the worst headlights of any car I've owned since 1970. I have noted that…

EV6 years to avoid — and the clean ones
Complaints per model year. More reports usually means more cars on the road as well as more trouble, so read the crash and fire columns alongside the count.

| 2025 | Electrical System | 1 | — | |

The same model year, different builds
Every complaint carries the first 11 characters of the VIN — plant, year, body and engine. That is a production series, and complaints are spread across them very unevenly.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Distinct production series | 155 |
| Average complaints per series | 3.3 |
| Worst single series | 24 complaints |
| Average age at failure | 1.9 years |
A model average of 3.3 hides a worst series at 24. Enter a VIN above to see the numbers for that exact build instead of the model as a whole.

How we count
Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.
A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.
Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
Frequently asked questions
What are the worst years for the EV6?
By complaint volume, 2022, 2023, 2024 drew the most owner reports. Bear in mind that popular years put more cars on the road, so check the crash and fire columns too.
Which EV6 years are the cleanest?
2025, 2024, 2023 have the fewest complaints on file. For recent years that can simply mean the cars are young.
How many complaints does the Kia EV6 have?
515 owner complaints filed with NHTSA, covering 2022–2025. Of those, 20 describe a crash and 1 a fire.
Are these complaints verified?
No. They are unverified reports from owners. NHTSA publishes them as filed and investigates only a fraction. The value is in the pattern, not in any single report.
Can I check complaints for one specific car?
Yes — enter its VIN above. We match the first 11 characters, which identify the plant, year, body and engine, so you get complaints on that exact production series rather than the whole model.
