Kia Problems

My [XXX] daughter was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a crash in which the vehicle struck a tree and a fire was present. She was unable to exit the vehicle and did not receive medical attention in time. Public records indicate the vehicle had an open federal safety recall at the time, listed as incomplete. I am submitting this information for awareness and review. I am not making any conclusions regarding causation. However, I believe it is important that incidents involving vehicle fires and open recalls are documented and evaluated to help protect other families. A recall was issued to me by kia in 2017 when we had the vehicle's engine totally replaced. On may 16, 2019 my son was driving when passerby's were honking and flashing their lights at him. He noticed that the engine was on fire, when he lost steering, and breaks. He jumped out of the car while moving and then the car exploded, a total of 3 separate times before fire and emergency personnel arrived on scene. Fire report and investigation underway

As soon as I pulled it off the lot within a few months I had some stalling where it would only go 30 mph I was pushing down on the gas full blown and then all of a sudden it would jerk and then it would go again I took it to the dealership the first time in 2016 and I told him that and they said they couldn't help me there was nothing wrong with it so I said okay second time and did it I took it back there and said there's something wrong do some testing they did some testing nothing. I was doing 70 mph and it jerked on me it slowed all the way down to 30mph by it self a semi I just passed I ended up hitting the milepost marker went through four lanes of traffic that semi almost hit me and killed me $10,000 worth of damage to my car I told guys need to figure this out. Kia they said nothing was wrong with it I got the body damage fixed I had full coverage. I went in again and told them there's something wrong with this vehicle they said it was fine so then I drove it for about a year it kept stalling but then it caught on fire smoke started coming out of the engine compartment as I was driving and my gauges went crazy went all the way to hot so I pulled over . I jumped out another person pulled over that was coming the opposite way and yelled get away from the car just in case it blow up it was white smoke at first and then it started turning into black smoke it was burning something had to sit there for hours we called Kia told him to come get it engine had caught on fire

I was driving down the highway at approximately 70 mph, and a deer ran into the front driver's side corner of the car. The airbag fortunately didn’t deploy, but the hood flew up and covered the windshield, blocking my ability to see. I was somehow able to pull the vehicle over without being able to see. Within 30 seconds of pulling over—and while I was still in the driver's seat—I noticed flames coming out of the engine compartment. I screamed to my son to get out of the car, and within minutes the car was completely engulfed in flames. The car burned to the ground and is a total loss. I have no idea how this could have possibly happened. This shouldn't have happened from a deer. The vehicle was only 7 months old, was up to date on all required maintenance and recalls, and had approximately 11,000 miles on it. It was in perfect condition. We were able to escape, but for a moment I thought we might not be able to. We're lucky to be alive. I reported the issue to my insurance company and the manufacturer and have received no information on causation. The vehicle was in motion on highway route 50 when smoke entered the vehicle from the AC vents. I tried to press the brakes but they failed. The contact owned a 2006 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 15 - 20 mph, the steering wheel seized and the brakes failed when depressed which caused the vehicle to fall over a 25 ft. Cliff and flip 3 times after hitting the ground. All of the air bags failed to deploy. The contact saw that there was smoke coming from under the hood and exited the vehicle. The contact was taken to the hospital by a family member and the vehicle was towed to a tow yard. No police report was filed. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 162,000

"takata recall" the airbag did not deploy when the car was hit traveling south bound. A vehicle pulled out in front and could not avoid hitting the vehicle. Traveling on a straight way on city street. Insurance have totaled the vehicle

The contact owns a 2009 kia spectra. The contact stated while driving 25 mph he was involved in a head on collision and the air bags did not deploy. There was a strong burning odor coming from the air bags. The vehicle was destroyed. Both the manufacture and the dealer have not been notified. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000 miles

I was driving this car and received a check engine light and lulled over to find an electrical fire had occurred under the hood. I was able to use a fire extinguisher to put out this fire. The car was towed to a Kia dealership near my home for confirmation and an estimate of the damages. It apparently was caused by a problem that Kia has had with the ABS/hydraulic electronic control units that can trigger electrical shorts

I was driving my car on the highway, then I got the message çheck your electrical system'for around a minute. Then there was a rumble or bang as if I hit something with the back, but the road was clean. Then the car started slowing down and I drove to the side. I got out of the car and saw white smoke coming from under the car in the back. I started opening the hood and trunk in the back to find out, where the smoke came from. It was nothing to see. Because it was an electrical car I assumed, that it could start burning, when it smells like smoke and looks like smoke. So I called 911 and told them, that I think my electric car is starting to burn, where I am and that nobody was injured. I took everything out of the car, closed the hood, the trunk and the doors and moved in a safe distance at the side. Around 10 minutes later firefighters arrived and started to put out the fire with a water hose. They opened the trunk, removed the covers there and put water an top of the burned part. The fire wasn't that big. I think, I acted fast enough, to stop it early. I think the battery started to burn. Nothing else was affected. The police called a towing truck and the car is now at the towing yard. It happend 3 hours ago. Police came, I have a filenumber and the insurance has also been informed. I took some pictures of the small fire, the smoke and the melted parts in the trunk after the fire was stopped

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while seated inside the vehicle with three other occupants and the engine turned off, there was black smoke quickly coming from underneath the hood. The contact and the passengers exited the vehicle. The contact stated that a fire had started in the engine bay on the passenger’s side of the vehicle and another vehicle was damaged in the fire. The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department. The contact stated that a Police report was filed. The contact believed that the vehicle was destroyed, but the insurance company had not yet deemed the vehicle a total loss. There were no injuries sustained. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000

I was involved in a rollover accident and the driver's side door opened during the accident. Had I not been wearing my seatbelt, I would have been ejected from the vehicle

The car material itself is very cheap meaning it poor quality, very flimsy, I hit a curb and the grill and cover just broke so easily even though it was now a serious hit but very small and slight to the point where you can’t feel it. Now it’s just hanging off and shaking badly because of the poor material, it isn’t stuff enough to keep in place

The paint on my 2015 kia sorento (snow white pearl) is peeling off large sheets, exposing the metal underneath. This is a know issue affecting many kia and hyndai vehicles. I am concered it will lead to rust, safety issues, and reduce visibility. A piece laded on my windshield blocking my view. Kia has denied repair and has a case pending more research. Case number is 25399760. This is cleary a manfacturer defect happening to this color only. It is peeling on the hood and doors and back side. I am the original owner

The contact owns a 2022 Kia K5. The contact stated that while driving 50-55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and came to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway. The contact did not attempt to restart the vehicle. The contact activated the hazard lights; however, 20–30 minutes later, another vehicle struck the front passenger side of the vehicle near the front passenger’s side wheel. The contact sustained sharp lower back, hip, and left knee pain. The contact's boyfriend sustained lower back and right knee pain. A family member transported both occupants to the hospital, where medical attention was provided. The check engine warning light illuminated after the failure. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to Custom Auto-Collision. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V760000 (Power Train). The dealer was notified of the failure by phone. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000

The contact owns a 2021 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH and exiting the freeway, the vehicle failed to accelerate and decelerated. While slowing down and driving onto the shoulder a second vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle. During the crash the contact sustained a mild neck injury. Medical attention was sought. Additionally, the vehicle had experienced auto stop failures and the engine failed to automatically restart when the brake pedal was released. Recently the vehicle was jerking while accelerating and merging into traffic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Niro Hybrid. The contact stated that while at a stop light the warning message "transmission overheating" had displayed and the vehicle did not drive forward. The contact attempted to push the vehicle offer the road when suddenly the vehicle accelerated forward and drove on the opposite side of the over a curb and drove into oncoming traffic and crashed head on into a second vehicle. The vehicle the drover over a curb and down an embankment and crashed. The failure mileage was 140,000

The contact owned a 2016 kia sportage. While the contact's son was making a right turn at 5 mph, he lost control of the vehicle. The steering seized, which caused the vehicle to crash into a tree and burst into flames. It was unknown if the air bags deployed. The contact's son suffered a concussion and sought medical attention. A police report was filed. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the contact's insurance company. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown. *tt

The contact owns a 2026 Kia Carnival. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, while avoiding another vehicle that almost crashed into the vehicle, the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel, and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver, and the front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into a guard rail and the front bumper detached. No warning lights were illuminated. The air bags had not deployed. A Police report was filed. The contact sustained back, neck, and head pain from the impact in the crash. Medical attention was sought, and the contact was diagnosed with a whiplash. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,272

The contact owned a 2021 Kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the steering wheel locked independently, causing the vehicle to veer off the road into a construction site. The contact stated that the air bags did deploy. The contact stated that she sustained noise and neck injuries, including placenta rupture, causing early labor. Medical attention was required. The contact stated that a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000

My Kia Consumer Care Case #[XXX] assigned May 2024. For Lights/Headlights/Illumination Safety hazards. My complaint purpose is to explain & show docs. Of my Interrupted Illumination Headlights/Loss of Viewing while using the headlights during the night. See attached snapshots taken on [XXX], [XXX] and [XXX] showing the Safety Hazards Interrupted Illumination LED Headlights/Loss of Headlight Visibility and indicating a Safety Risk with me having another crash. Due to this Safety Hazard issue, my vehicle safety driving is ONLY DURING THE DAY light DUE TO Interrupted Illumination Headlights/Loss of Headlight Visibility. I have also attached docs pertaining to the KIA RECALL #SC130 HEADLIGHT MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH, which states the "consequence as Loss of Headlight Illumination and reduced visibility, in addition to an increase to the risk of a crash. I've already had a crash. I need this Safety Hazards Interrupted Illumination Headlights/Loss of Headlight Visibility and indicating a Safety Risk resolved with a recommended Safety Repair to its earliest time. Light in trunk exploded and melted. This was the original light that came with the car. Thankfully the trunk was empty and it did not catch fire

Hooded projector lights provide very limited vision on dark roads. We hit a deer and have significant damage to our vehicle due to this issue. Our brights do not come on either. Nothing happens when we select the bright option
