Which Polestar models draw the most complaints
Volume follows sales, so a bestseller will always top this list. The columns worth reading are age at failure and how many reports ended in a crash.

The backup camera continues to fail to turn on. The car will intermittently report “Camera is temporarily unavailable”. This persists for minutes at a time. I cannot figure out how to get the camera to turn on when this happens. It already received the OTA “fix” for this but it did not fix the issue

Car was charging normally and all of a sudden it stopped charging both level 2 and DC. No warning nothing and seems like a common occurrence in this car and after warranty is over. Have ready many have this happen to them. Shop says that it’s the OBC needs to be replaced which isn’t a cheap replacement. Usually a car would give a warning and not completely die on you. Most say that Dc would work and not the level 2. Which should be part of the the propulsion related part and covered on the 8year/100k warranty. But they say it’s not
Failed to schedule recall RP1063 repair with dealer Boston Polestar (617) 925-7300 for my Polestar 3. I contacted Boston Polestar several times to schedule the recall RP1063 repair, but I was unable to get an appointment. The call operator redirected me to the Polestar service department, which was always busy. The operator left notes for the Polestar manager and promised I would receive a call back, but no one called back. Please help. Best, Jun

Vehicle has multiple ongoing defects, most critically a malfunctioning occupant detection system causing the alarm to activate randomly, including overnight when the vehicle is empty. This creates a safety concern and repeated public disturbances. The issue has not been resolved despite multiple service attempts. Additional issues include persistent propulsion system fault messages, repeated major service warnings, and intermittent system errors. The vehicle experiences charging failures, with inconsistent ability to charge at home or public stations. Infotainment system is extremely slow and unreliable, and both the center display and driver screen reset unexpectedly while driving or parked. Driver-side window intermittently reports as open or cracks open without input. Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay connections are unreliable. Driver profile settings do not consistently adjust seating and mirror positions. Mechanical issues include a glove compartment that does not open, premature wiper failure, and a front wheel center cap that detached while driving. Vehicle has required multiple tows and has been in service for an extended period (approximately one month) without resolution. Issues persist despite repeated repair attempts by an authorized service center. Polestar corporate has ghosted me and no longer will help
Failure of backup camera to display. This is a persistent problem that remains, despite having the latest software. I have a video showing the camera not working, that the vehicle is in reverse, and showing software version

I have had ongoing problems with backup camera, as does everybody else with this car. I was promised a fix in January and the camera is still not working correctly

The backup camera has progressively been made worse by software updates. It is often nonfunctional, shows a black screen, or excessively flickers, making it hard or impossible to see

During reversing the rear view camera stopped functioning. Attempts to toggle the camera setting did not correct the issue. After years, this problem still exists and is unacceptable. When will the NHTSA enforce an actual fix from Polestar? The computer has insufficient processing power and RAM to reliably function and the cameras are included in that function

While backing up, my vehicle collided with a an approaching vehicle due to reduced rear visibility. At the time of the incident, the rearview camera system did not display any image on the center screen. There were no warning messages or indicators alerting me to a malfunction prior to or during the incident. The loss of rear camera function put my safety and the safety of others at risk, as I was relying on the system for visibility behind the vehicle. Shortly after the accident, I received a safety recall notice from the manufacturer stating that a defect in the parking assist camera system may reduce rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash. The timing of the incident suggests that the defect may have been present and contributed to the crash, although I was not aware of the issue until after the accident occurred

Persistent unresolved front-suspension defect on a 2022 Polestar 2 (Polestar Approved CPO, purchased 03/20/2025). Vehicle pulls right under normal driving on flat, level pavement — a directional control hazard requiring constant steering correction at highway speed. A front-suspension noise over bumps developed after recent repairs. The Polestar-authorized dealer (University Volvo / Polestar Charlotte) made FIVE repair attempts on this same complaint without resolving it: 10/23/2025; 11/04/2025; 04/01/2026; 04/15/2026; and 04/17–04/27/2026. Five alignments performed. Both upper strut bearings replaced 04/15/2026 (Inv #XXX , $1,499.44). On the next visit the dealer replaced a control arm and did additional shock and bearing work as no-charge line items (Inv #263452, $279.19) — implicitly acknowledging the prior repair was inadequate. Within one block of leaving the dealer on 04/15, vehicle developed a new front-right rattle that did not exist before. Dealer's own technician notes on Inv #XXX state verbatim: "test drove vehicle and could not verify any pulling while driving" — repair performed WITHOUT confirmed symptom reproduction. As of 05/04/2026 (six days after pickup), vehicle is again pulling right and now has a NEW noise over bumps. Condition is materially worse than before any repair. This is the subject of Polestar Technical Journal TJ XXX (NHTSA document MC-XXX-0001), which acknowledges creaking/knocking from the upper front suspension on Polestar 2 MY 2021–2024 a

Polestar against the rest
| Measure | Where Polestar sits | Out of |
|---|---|---|
| By complaint volume | #0 | 29 brands with 3,000+ complaints |
| By age at failure (later is better) | #0 | 29 brands |
| Complaints ending in a crash | 1.3% | across all 637 reports |
Ranking by volume says more about how many cars a brand sells than about how they hold up. Age at failure is the fairer of the two.

How we count
Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.
A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.
Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
