How to read a Jayco Granite Ridge VIN — every digit explained
Every Jayco Granite Ridge carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Jayco and the country it was built in (real Jayco codes below).
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Granite Ridge.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
- —1UJ
Digits 4–17 — the engine code (8th), model-year letter (10th) and plant — follow the universal SAE standard, identical on every car. For the full year-code table (2001–2026), country codes and where the VIN is stamped on your Granite Ridge, see the complete guide to reading a VIN.

What's wrong. On certain motor homes, the windshield wiper motor may have been produced without grease being applied to the output shaft gear.
Risk. After a period of continuous use on the high speed setting, lack of grease on the output shaft gear may cause the gear to distort or fracture during operation resulting in a loss of wiper function. Inoperative wipers under inclement weather conditions could cause a crash due to impaired visibility.
Fix. Ford is conducting the owner notification and remedy for this campaign. Dealers will inspect the wiper motor for the presence of grease and grease the wiper motor gears if necessary. All vehicles have been remedied.
Equipment
What's wrong. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Risk. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Fix. Jayco will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Fix. Dealers will inspect and reroute and/or replace the battery cable free of charge. The recall began on february 28, 2005. Owners may contact jayco at 574-825-5861.
Trailer Hitches
What's wrong. On certain motor homes, the hitch receiver may have missing reinforcing plates. When a load is applied to the hitch, it may become partially detached from the frame if these plates are missing.
Risk. This condition, if not addressed, could result in a crash, personal injury or death.
Fix. Dealers will inspect and replace the reinforcing plates with new hardware. The recall began on january 10, 2006. Owners may contact jayco at 1-800-283-8267.
Engine And Engine Cooling
What's wrong. On certain motor homes built on ford e-series chassis, the air filter element material process resulted in an air filter paper element that can smolder or burn. This change in filter paper composition, combined with the configuration of the air induction system, may allow hot carbon particles to contact the air filter element during certain driving conditions that create hot particles.
Risk. These hot particles may ignite the air filter element with the potential for air induction system damage or underhood fire.
Fix. Ford motor company is conducting the owner notification and remedy for this campaign. Dealers will inspect and replace the air filter element. Owners should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673 or jayco at 1-800-283-8267.

Risk. At the incorrectly stated pressure, the rear tires are unable to support the gross axle weight rating (gawr) for the rear axle.
Fix. Owners will be mailed supplementary tire labels containing the correct rear tire inflation information. Owners may contact ford at 1-800-392-3673 or jayco at 1-800-283-8267 .

Risk. An electrical short can occur causing the oven to activate without pressing any key pads. This could result in excessive heat, smoke, or possibly a fire.
Fix. Samsung will notify customers and repair the panel free of charge. In the meantime, consumers should unplug their microwave, if possible. If the consumer is unable to unplug the microwave, they should leave the door ajar until the panel is replaced. Power Train 1 Read
I have owned my 2025 Jayco Granite Ridge 22T for approximately 9 months. I have encountered a number of warranty issues that are slowly being resolved. I write to you out of concern for a leaking pinion seal (at 14,000 miles) that may lead to driveshaft and/or differential failure events including rear wheel lockup. This has been reported for the 2024 Jayco Granite Ridge 22T and a safety recall has been issued: Jayco Inc 24V-158 / Ford 24V-102 I have not been able to find any safety recalls to the 2025 model year, however I have been unable to determine any substantive differences between my 2025 unit and the 2024 units. Thus I suspect that the same issue for which the recall was issued on the 2024 model, also affects the 2025 model year. Ford tells me that driveline modifications occur after the vehicle leaves the Ford Factory. Jayco tells me that there are no driveline modifications that occur once the unit reaches the Jayco factory. So nobody seems to want to take responsibility for it. But my unit is marketed as a 'adventure capable" 4 season camper, which would be fine, but that means driving on snowy/icy mountain roads and potential exposes me to a rear wheel lockup event that could prove to be fatal in winter time conditions. I urge you to extend the recall noted above to the 2025 Model year.
Structure 1 Read
We have a 2004 jayco granite ridge class-c motor home. On our first trip when the temperature got below 40 degrees, i personally could not open the entry door. My husband nearly broke his knuckles forcing the door open. I feel this is a safety matter, since the only other exit is the back window which is an extreme exit. On one occasion our carbon monoxide detector went off because we were using the generator & furnace for heat and fumes were getting into the cab near the detector. We shut the generator off and opened windows but it was extremely difficult to get the entry door open. It appears that cold weather affects the material the door is made from.??? Our dealer is attempting to resolve this problem, however i feel this is a factory structural problem. *jb
