How to read a Jayco Redhawk VIN — every digit explained

Every Jayco Redhawk carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.

  • VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
  • Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
  • Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
  • Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Redhawk.
  • Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.

I just pickup my 2021 Jayco Blackhawk 31f last friday, June 10, 2022, at 4 pm. I drove home for 35 mile from Johnson Rv in Gilroy. On the way home, I has lost control of the car by wobbling around the freeway by run over a tiny bump. I call the RV Dealership the same day, but they already closed. Next day morning on Saturday, I call them and they said the service department closed and need to wait until monday. I call on monday and talked to the Service department, they said they can not do anything and have me talk to my sales represent. The person sold to me, he does not work on monday and tuesday. Then I asked for the sale manager, and explain to him that the car wobble around on the freeway. then he said he will talk to the service department and call me back. today on tuesday, I call them again and they gave me the same excuse and have me wait for the phone call from the service department. I asked my friend to test drive it today and he give me some comments. He came up with the "DEATH WOBBLE." on the front wheel. Which are common for the Ford trucks. I will keep calling them to fixed this truck or replace it.

We received the two recall notice letters from Ford Motor Company, 20V795 & 22V089, for our 2021 Jayco Redhawk class C RV. Upon receiving the first recall notice, 20V795, an appointment was made with our local Ford Dealer, Spradley Ford Lincoln Mercury, in Pueblo, CO, on Oct 1, 2021 to have it inspected and recall taken care of. Upon arrival that morning, was told they did not have the parts, would have to order them & their technician just called in "sick". Appointment was rescheduled once they had the recall parts in for Nov 15, 2021, again at our local Ford Dealer, Spradley Ford Lincoln Mercury, in Pueblo, CO. Upon arrival that morning to drop the unit off for the recall repair, was turned away again & told I'd have to reschedule as they had a break-in overnight & their technicians' had some tools stolen & would not be working today & they would have the service manager call me to reschedule the appointment once again, which never happened. In March of 2022, we received the second recall notice, 22V089, advising to take it to the local Ford dealer for inspection & repair. I called the Ford Dealer, now Alpine Ford, in Pueblo, CO, several times having to leave a message without a return call. On April 6, 2022, I spoke with Jeff in Service at Alpine Ford & was informed Alpine Ford would not do the recalls as the new owners refused to do them after purchasing the dealership & referred me to Camping World. I had an appointment at Camping World in Colorado Springs this same day & they contacted Ford Dealers in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Canon City, & all refused to handle the recalls. I called Ford Corporate & expressed my displeasure with dealers failing to comply with recall notices causing safety concerns for use of the unit & was told the were not "refusing" to do the recalls just did not have any technicians or locations except maybe O'Mera Ford in Northglenn, CO, who might handle it, which is unacceptable as they are 2 hours & 100 miles away.

I was driving slowly looking for an open gas station on a highwsy in Va. i attempted to make a left hand turn when i heard a snapping sound. I then had a complete loss of power steering and braking capacity. I started rolling across the highway mashing the brakes and finally put my Ebrake on stopping my RV. There were not any lights lit up on the dashboard before or after this incident. If i was going 70 down a busy highway, the outcome of this incident would be much different. My children would be planning my funeral today.

Since the purchase of this class c rv i have noticed cracks forming on three occasions on the outside fiberglass of the over cab area. The cracks formed on top close to the edge of the cab on both sides around halfway from the roof line and the curved area. Instead of some random fiberglass cracks this cracks appear to me more of a stress related problem or some type of structural defect in design as they appeared directly across from each other on both sides of the cab and re-appear after repairs. The first cracks were noted in feb 2015 on the driver side. The second set were noted in mar 2015 on the passenger side. The latest cracks were noted in dec 2015 and are located near the same area as the ones noticed in feb 2015. This cracks were found during vehicle inspection prior to use.
