In these vehicles, if the awning installation sequence is not completely followed, the awning motor may unknowingly become damaged.

Risk. If motor damage occurs, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the motorhome is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.

Fix. Jayco will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the awning motor free of charge. The recall began on May 23, 2013. Owners may contact Jacyo at 1-800-283-8267 for more information.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jayco white hawk equipped with towmax str power king towmax (na) tires, size: st225/75r15. While driving 60 mph, the rear passenger side tire blew out. The contact stated that the tire tread completely separated from the tire and exposed the crossmember of the tire. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the right side of the road and dialed roadside assistance to have the tire replaced with the spare tire. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign number: 14t015000 (tires) directly applied to the vehicle. The tire and vehicle failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

2012 White Hawk

I had a tire blow-out while towing my travel trailer at highway speeds in july of 2013 with less than 2,000 miles on the trailer. I changed the tire and repaired the damage to my trailer not knowing the reason for the blow-out. I had monitored my tires for the next year or so, of which i probably put another 2,000 miles on the trailer) and found that they were wearing very uneven. So much so that the outside tread of a tire would have absolutely no tread and the inside of the tire would have full tread. I started doing research on the internet regarding my trailer model and if anyone else had this same issue. I found forums with multiple individuals mentioning that they had found out that dexter axle had provided the wrong size axles to the manufacturer and that due to normal operation of the trailer, the axles could in-fact bend, permanently, and cause uneven tire wear to the point of tire-failure. I contacted jayco and dexter axle, and they informed me that this was a problem and that they have not provided a notice or recall to their customers. They simply asked me to provide the vin on the axles, and after confirming that these axles were in fact the wrong size, they shipped out two new axles and paid for the installation of the axles. My trailer now tows much truer. In the past, and not knowing if it was necessarily normal, towing the trailer was sometimes a fight as it wanted to sway. Even though they remedied the problem, i find it unnerving that there was never a notice or recall issued, since they acknowledged the problem to me. A blown tire at highway speeds could be fatal, not only for the occupants in the vehicle towing the trailer, but the other vehicles on the roadway. Hoping that this helps other owners of this model travel trailer. Thank you for your time and feel free to contact me with any questions. *tr

Jayco shipped early model year white hawk travel trailers with 2 3/8" axles (42" wide stance axle spacing). During turning the wide stance axles are bending causing damage to axle, bearing assembly, and tires, because the axles can't hold up to the weight . Tires are getting excessive inside wear on the inside tread, axles are bending, and if not caught in time catching fire. See forum: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15137 regarding other consumers with same issue. Jayco is aware of this issue and so is dexter axle. Dexter axle is providing full replacement of axles to a upgraded 3" axle size to prevent damage mentioned above, if the consumer is proactive and contacts jayco and / or dexter axle. Jayco, at this time, refuses to notify customers of this issue or issue a recall. Being a career fire fighter, i feel jayco is not only putting there consumers in harms way, but the rest of us on the road. *tr

2012 White Hawk

Purchased from an individual this whitehawk. Noticed extreme tire wear on the trailer so did some research and found out some 2012 whitehawks had the wrong axles installed. Jayco did not recall any of these white hawks. I had to pay for labor on a miss-assembly and will have to replace tires prematurely.

Had to change axles on white hawk and the guy doing the work noticed the brakes were missing a bushing on the actuator arm. He said in the 15 years he has never seen this before. I had to replace the entire brake assemblies due to the omission of this part. Dexter would not reimburse me the cost of the brake assembly.
