A low average age does not automatically mean a fragile car: a brand with a young fleet on the road will always skew early. Read it next to the share reported inside three years.

Oil light keeps coming on suddenly, I looked online and there are many people who have had the same issue. It's only intermittent, and turns off when moving and turns on when idle. The first time it came on was when I was crawling on a first time in forever frozen Alabama road. I was very careful not to start sliding, and when the sign came on I panicked and ended up in a ditch. The safety issue comes from not knowing if this is a sensor issue or an actual oil issue. Most people stated that it was a sensor issue but to replace it, you must access inside of the motor

On Thursday 10/24/2024 I went to use my car which was parked in my garage and although the car was unlocked none of the doors would open. The car was completely dead and I had used it just several days before. Nothing would open doors, trunk no response from the key fob. A tow truck had to be called and the truck dragged the car out of the garage and placed dolly wheels on the front and towed from the rear to a Genesis dealer. My concern this electrical problem locked the car if a child was in the rear the only way to get the child out would be to break a window and then entry through the broken window as well as exit. The included metal key would not open the door and no access to the trunk or under the hood. The doors are electronic and power operated

My AC in my 2023 GV 70 stopped working. Apparently this is a known defect but I was never notified. Im currently in NC, 3 hours from my home in [XXX] where the heat index is 110 degrees. Now i have to drive home to get service without AC. I reached out to the dealer four times today including the service manager, service coordinator and Anthony the GM but no one has returned my call. I called Genesis customer service and their response was “sorry no appointments until late next week and we have no loaners until late September”. Clearly, no one at Genesis at the dealer level or corporate cares enough to help me solve this problem so I am forced to find an independent mechanic who can work on my vehicle and rent my own car until it’s repaired. This is completely unacceptable especially for a luxury vehicle. First, not being notified of a problem Genesis has known about for a long time so i could repair it before it’s become a calamity (where i am now). Second, no one cares enough to help me solve their defective parts problem! I expect Genesis to pay for both the repairs and my rental plus any additional out of pocket expenses. While driving home, I engaged the self-driving feature. The vehicle immediately speeded up, and aggressively veered to the left, causing it to exit the roadway onto the grassy median, where it struck several of the metal rails and plastic pylons. This malfunction resulted in a dangerous loss of control that could have resulted in a far more severe collision. Please note the following details regarding the vehicle and its history: - Ownership: I am the second owner of the vehicle and have owned it for less than one year. The previous owner was a rental car company. - Prior Service History: I have previously taken this vehicle to the dealership on two separate occasions specifically to address concerns regarding the self-driving system pulling to the left. In both instances, I was informed that no issues could be identified. Given that this is a recurring issue that has now resulted in a collision, and my car being totalled by my insurance. I ask that you open a formal investigation into the safety and functionality of the self-driving option for this vehicle. (2024 Genesis G70 Stantard)

The contact owns a 2017 Genesis G90. The contact stated while the vehicle was turned off, locked, and parked in the driveway, he pressed the trunk release button on the key fob to open the trunk while he was standing behind the vehicle. However, the vehicle inadvertently rolled backward independently, and hit the contact, causing him to flip up in the air, and the contact fell down at the curb on the driver's side of the driveway. The vehicle continued to roll down, rolled up the hill of the driveway, rolled back down, and crashed into the wall and mailbox box. The contact stated that bystanders assisted him up. The bystanders also attempted to open the vehicle; however, the vehicle was still locked. The vehicle was not occupied at the time of the failure. The contact sought medical assistance the next day and was informed that he had sustained separation of muscles on the right side of his back. There was no police report filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent a field inspector to inspect the vehicle. The field inspector informed the contact that the EDR would not indicate the cause of the failure as it could not operate while the vehicle was turned off. The manufacturer later contacted the contact and informed him that they could not assist as the EDR did not reveal the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000

After 2 hours on the road August 1, 2026 (from [XXX] to [XXX]), in 119-degree heat, the AC stopped blowing cold air out of the dash vents. There was cold air coming out of the rear-seat vent. The vehicle became unbearably hot. (Took my wife 2 days to recover from heat exhaustion.) The AC started working properly after the car sat for a few days in [XXX]. The Genesis Escondido service shop has not been able to duplicate the problem. The vehicle is still there at the shop. At approximately 68k miles, I observed hesitation when pulling away from a stop in our 2023 GV80 2.5t AWD Prestige. At 71,300 miles, we observed an increasing howling noise from the rear of the vehicle, primarily at coasting, with various tones emitted during application and release of the accelerator pedal. The rear differential fluid was drained for inspection, and there were metal shavings accumulated on the drain magnet, discolored (metallic shavings) fluid, and visible shiny metal flakes in the drained fluid. The differential is close to total failure on this vehicle. Hyundai has issued a TSB, so it is known, but they are not recalling this extreme safety hazard that has been reported for several years across many owners. A quick search of various owner forums reveals this truth. Moreover, replacement differentials do not improve the issue, often having to be replaced themselves only a short time later

On XXX while driving at approximately 5mph in a parking lot my Genesis GV70 shifted from Drive to Park by itself causing the car and my wife and I to lurch forward and come to a stop! The car would not come out of Park and a warning came up after the fact saying to contact immediate service. My wife and I were in the car and there were no injuries. If this occurred at a higher rate of speed on a busy highway I cannot imagine what would have happened. I immediately called Genesis Road Assistance for a tow. The car was towed by flat bed to the dealer in [XXX], where I purchased the car, approximately 10 miles away where it sits today waiting for service. My wife and I are afraid to drive this car ever again as it is brand new with only 250 miles on the odometer. *No warnings of any kind prior to the incident. When turning on the car, the right side of the dashboard (digital panel) will not turn on, it will not display rpm, gas or speed. The turn signals are not making the click noise. The issue happens randomly and I haven’t been able to replicate it in the presence of the dealer. Once the dashboard is back on the service engine light will come on and a service code is noted on the diagnostic system. This has been ongoing since the car was brand new, the first instance at 1,200 miles

Monday 06/08/26, I received a call from dealership that they need to recoup the vehicle due to safety recall, explaining that they shouldn’t have sold it to me. Apparently, the recall was initiated on 03/02/26, and as of today, “Remedy not yet available”. The sales person, dealership or manufacturer, can not tell me if/when a remedy is coming. Vehicle is currently disabled due to Open Recall Campaign #262/023G (NHTSA Recall Number 24V528000) for High-Pressure Fuel Pump Failure. On 05/19/2026, the vehicle suffered total loss of drive power at highway speeds (Hwy 16/211), creating an immediate hazard. The manufacturer failed to provide a timely remedy, initially misdirecting me to a dealer unable to service the model. Genesis and the local dealer now refuse to provide a courtesy tow to an authorized facility, despite the vehicle being disabled by their own safety defect. The vehicle has been stranded and unrepaired for over a month. This leaves my son at risk, as he must walk along dangerous highways during Extreme Heat Advisories while managing a spinal injury. The impact of being without a reliable, functioning vehicle at this address is not merely an inconvenience—it is a critical safety issue. We reside in a remote area where even emergency responders (EMS) have been unable to locate our entrance when responding to a recent medical emergency involving a hiatal hernia. Being without a vehicle that can reliably transport us or navigate to a main road is not a sustainable or safe position, and by refusing to remedy this recall defect, Genesis is directly contributing to this hazardous environment. I have explained this entire situation with Genesis Escalation without a resolution The safety hazard is compounded by the lack of local transportation. The high-pressure fuel pump failed, resulting in insufficient fuel delivery to the engine. This caused a significant loss of engine output, with the vehicle unable to accelerate beyond approximately 35 mph or stalling around 60 mph and exhibiting very slow acceleration. The lack of adequate power created unsafe driving conditions. I was nearly rear-ended while making a right turn and again while attempting to merge onto the interstate, as the vehicle could not accelerate as expected. There were no warning lights or prior indications of a problem on the dashboard. The issue first occurred on 2/21/2026, and I immediately stopped driving the vehicle. The vehicle has since been inspected by the Charlotte Genesis dealership, which diagnosed a high-pressure fuel pump failure

One night shortly after I picked up my 2020 genesis g90, I was driving home on a city street when I noticed something wrong with my headlights. As I was driving I was trying to figure out what was wrong with them. I kept thinking that there was an obstruction on the headlights that was causing some darkened areas right in the center of my field of vision. While trying to determine what was causing this, I was momentarily distracted and I brushed up against a curb causing a nasty incidence of 'curb rash' on my front passenger wheel. So my brand-new g90 with less than 100 miles on it was now disfigured. The good news is I can get a brand-new wheel installed for only $1,025! After dropping eighty grand on the g90, this was actually extraordinarily bad news. I called the dealership to see if the headlights needed adjustment. I was informed that "genesis was aware of the problem but there was nothing that can be done about it". I consider this a safety defect since these darkened areas obstruct a clear view of the road at night

The contact owns a 2024 Genesis G70. The contact stated that there was condensation building up inside the headlight assembly, causing the headlight illumination to be reduced, and the turn light brightness was dull. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was determined that there was a crack in the headlight housing. The dealer claimed that the crack was caused by a crash. The contact believed that the failure was a safety defect and not damage caused by a crash. The contact stated that there was a high number of other Genesis vehicle owners who had experienced the exact same failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available

2019 Genesis G90

My 2019 Genesis G90 (3.3L twin-turbo) previously received Recall 019G for the left turbocharger oil feed pipe at a authorized Genesis dealership. At approximately 137,508 miles, the right side turbocharger oil feed pipe failed. I experienced an engine oil leak, a strong burning oil smell, smoke from the engine compartment, engine light on, lost of power and oil leaking onto hot engine components. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent repair facility, which determined that the right turbocharger oil feed pipe required replacement. I contacted Genesis Motor America requesting goodwill assistance because the right side pipe is the matching component to to the recalled left side, but my request was denied because the recall only applies to the left side. I am submitting this complaint because I believe the failure of the right side oil feed pipe is presenting the same safety risk

How we count

Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,109,349 of them, covering 2,013 models built between 1981 and 2026.

A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.

Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
