Oil light keeps coming on suddenly, I looked online and there are many people who have had the same issue. It's only intermittent, and turns off when moving and turns on when idle. The first time it came on was when I was crawling on a first time in forever frozen Alabama road. I was very careful not to start sliding,…
The entire instrument panel/cluster went out while driving. It did come back on after going totally black. We had no ability to see speed, fuel, or any cameras. This happened yesterday, May 13, 2025. We are trying to get an appointment at the dealership to address it. There does not appear to be any error codes…

This is a follow-up to complaint #11714226 regarding an ongoing safety defect. The defect has now resulted in a crash. This complaint is a follow-up to NHTSA Complaints #11714226 and #11730299 regarding the same unresolved safety defect. Car less than 1 month old with approx 500 miles caught fire from the engine and was totaled. Nearly took the driver and house with it
Oil pressured sensor went bad $2500 fix from dealer. In Korea this is a recall. The Genesis forums are full of complaints regarding same issue. The factory should cover this but the 10 year 100000 mile warranty does not cover it since it is considered an electrical part
At just 41,000 miles, the oil pressure sensor has failed. There are many on-line reports of this issue going back several years for the Genesis G80 sedan. It appears this is NOT covered under the 10 yr/100,000 mile warranty and is only covered by the 5 yr/60,000 mile warranty. In my case, this part failed almost 5…

I was pulling into the driveway and put on the brake, and the brakes did not respond. The car crashed thru the garage door. I put the car in reverse, but it didn't respond. It took about 5 seconds for it to engage. Then once it engaged in reverse, it was out of my control, as the car shot back at a high speed, bounced…
Any time I step on the gas to accelerate from the current speed to by pass a car (by changing lanes), the transmission down shift to third gear and does not Up-shift causing the car to reach the top speed of the 3rd gear which is slower then the speed before the shifting occured. This episode causes the car behind me…
When turning on the car, the right side of the dashboard (digital panel) will not turn on, it will not display rpm, gas or speed. The turn signals are not making the click noise. The issue happens randomly and I haven’t been able to replicate it in the presence of the dealer. Once the dashboard is back on the service…

My car was parked in a parking lot when I discovered the right front continental procontact tx oem tire had a 21/2" gash in the sidewall. I thought this strange, but I had the tire replaced. The same model year, different builds
Every complaint carries the first 11 characters of the VIN — plant, year, body and engine. That is a production series, and complaints are spread across them very unevenly.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Distinct production series | 90 |
| Average complaints per series | 2.3 |
| Worst single series | 9 complaints |
| Average age at failure | 4.0 years |
A model average of 2.3 hides a worst series at 9. Enter a VIN above to see the numbers for that exact build instead of the model as a whole.

How we count
Every figure here comes from complaints owners filed with NHTSA — 1,100,006 of them, covering 1,982 models built between 1981 and 2026.
A complaint is an unverified report: someone wrote down what happened to their car. It is not a confirmed defect and not a recall. What makes the volume useful is the pattern — when thousands of owners of the same build describe the same failure, that is a signal no marketing brochure will give you.
Two things we do that the source does not. First, we compute the age of the car at the moment of failure from the incident date and the model year. Second, we group complaints by the first 11 characters of the VIN — the production series — so a bad plant run does not disappear into a model-wide average.
Frequently asked questions
What are the worst years for the G80?
By complaint volume, 2018, 2017, 2019 drew the most owner reports. Bear in mind that popular years put more cars on the road, so check the crash and fire columns too.
Which G80 years are the cleanest?
2025, 2022, 2026 have the fewest complaints on file. For recent years that can simply mean the cars are young.
How many complaints does the Genesis G80 have?
209 owner complaints filed with NHTSA, covering 2017–2026. Of those, 16 describe a crash and 1 a fire.
Are these complaints verified?
No. They are unverified reports from owners. NHTSA publishes them as filed and investigates only a fraction. The value is in the pattern, not in any single report.
Can I check complaints for one specific car?
Yes — enter its VIN above. We match the first 11 characters, which identify the plant, year, body and engine, so you get complaints on that exact production series rather than the whole model.
