I was driving down a local road (approximate speed 40mph). After hitting an average bump in the road the vehicle went out of control. It thrashed side to side several times before crashing into a ditch and landing onto its side. I had no explanation for the cause of the crash. However, when the tow truck arrived he showed us a large rusted out part that was hanging down in front of the drivers side rear wheel (i took pictures as well as the police). *tr

Finally, i went back once again to the mechanics and explained what exactly the brakes are doing, and the mechanic said that he thinks that it is the "brake sensor" due to the rust around it. And that he has seen this before on these model suvs. So for the past year, i came in there with sensor "check engine" light (2x), and brake problems (2x) both of which caused me to not get an inspection pass until they were fixed. I think that it all had to do with the sensor not working on my brakes. I just saw an investigation done on my local news station about the bottoms of these suvs coming apart with no warning. One woman even pulled something off with her bare hands. I bought my care in 2001 with 9000 miles on it. I did not notice until a few days later, that the bottom joints showed a lot of rust. I was shocked and embarrassed. I asked about the rust then and continue to, and the answer is always, that's living in new england. But i got the car less than a year used. Already rusted. *tr

The auto body shop said i was very lucky that the car that hit me did not come through the car and end up in my back seat. Isuzu rodeo frame is completely rotted . The isuzu corp want to fix with rear brackets this will not fix the suv needs a whole new frame one that is made out of good steel and inclosed and coated . This request is being submitted following a fatal accident that occurred this past summer involving a 1999 rodeo. The circumstances surrounding the accident are suspicious as the driver appeared to be unable to stop his car and traveled across an entire median of an interstate, hit another car head-on and burst into flames upon impact. The driver of the rodeo was my daughter's father and his cause of death was due to thermal burns. He was trapped in the car and burned to death. Questions: could brake failure have caused this accident? Are there reports of explosions/fires with the isuzu rodeo? Crash tests? The driver did not sustain life threatening injuries from the impact of the crash. He died because the vehicle exploded into flames and he was trapped in the vehicle. My son was driving his 1995 isuzu rodeo on a wet road. He was not speeding and was not driving beyond the road condition. He applied the brakes as he was approaching a stop sign and the brakes subsequently locked up. The car started skidding and the vehicle slid into the northbound lane of hwy 603. He was struck on the drivers door by a northbound vehicle and was sent into a spin, partially airborne and thrown into the southbound lane. As a result, a southbound vehicle struck him. The resulting three-car accident resulted in the death of the southbound driver and premature delivery of her 8-month-old son and injuries to the northbound vehicles driver. We checked the brakes checked many times, we felt that the braking distances were extended compared to the other 2 cars that we own. Every time the brake pads were checked they were determined to be okay. The anti-lock brakes seem to grab on bumpy or slippery surfaces and then let go at the end. I received a recall #10v-436 form in the mail from the isuzu owner relations center 1400 s. Douglass road, suite 100 anahelm, ca 92806 on or about november 2010. It stated that i should call isuzu special assistance center to identify the isuzu service center closest to me. I was told the parts to repair my vehicle would not be available until the middle of january 2011. I called and an appointment for february 18, 2011 at bournival isuzu where i bought the suv brand new in august 2001. The suv was due for a sticker january 2011. January 10 2011 this vehicle was in an accident. There was minor damage to the rear left side totaling $2,800. When the body shop further investigating under the vehicle he noticed extensive frame damage rotting with holes and extensive rust. He determined the suv was unsafe. He also noticed the axel was 3/4 of an inch out of line. He then called our insurance company and the adjuster reinvestigated the vehicle. The adjuster at this time totaled the suv. The insurance company took ownership of the vehicle and subtracted a large sum of money from the finale amount because of the holes and rust he found on the frame undercarriage, to look at this vehicle you would have thought it was years younger then it was. There was no rust, dents or scratches. This vehicle should have gone another 100,000 miles at least. It was garaged and meticulously maintained with records from the date of purchase. I was told by friends it drove and sounded like a brand new automobile. My intention was to have it for ten more years. At this time i am requesting the amount disqualified by the insurance company for the frame metal decomposition and an amount for loss of longevity and failure to fulfill my expectations.

I called the local isuzu dealer and was told that they have not received the "tech bulletin" nor the parts to fix the vehicle but they would call me when they could get our vehicle in. They said it was only a minor issue that required spraying an anti rust spray on a part of the undercarriage. Yesterday, 01/30/2011 the left forward mounting bracket ripped away from the frame causing our vehicle to go into a irrecoverable clockwise spin. My wife and 2 year old son were in the vehicle with me. My wife was struck by flying debris and got some scratches and bruises. My son was secured in his car seat but was struck by flying debris and he got a contusion on his forehead and a black eye. I was able to fight through the spin and we ended up in a ditch with no other vehicles involved. We were 5 minutes away from being on the highway at highway speeds. If this were the case there would have been no way to avoid a life threatening crash. These vehicles are unsafe and are rolling death traps. Isuzu has told me that this is a level 4 failure and probably my vehicle will not be repaired under the recall due to the extensive corrosion. They state in their recall notice that there will be an alternative remedy for these situations. When i asked what the alternative remedy was i was told that they have not figured out what they will be doing yet. This is unacceptable. *tr

Vehicle rolled over when making wide turn, causing serious injuries.

Vehicle is very unstable due to insufficent dampening of the supension, dealer says this there is no problem. Truck will bottom out on slight bumps, and bounce up and down as if you were in a boat, the suspension parts are inferior compared to the weight of the vehicle. Condition is very unsafe and could cause loss of control in certain driving situations. Bounce = loss of tread contact to pavement = loss of control. All tires/points of supension (springs/shocks) have the same problem. Would not reccomend this vehicle to anyone other than a pirate, as they are used to the heaving and yawing of a ship.-----------catalitic converter / engine ~ catalitic converter was glowing red one day (with the usual check engine light) jiffylube employee in the pit pointed this problem out to me, laughing and saying it was right next to the gas line, which could cause a fire. Dealer replaced cat and now the truch hesitates/sputters in first gear and even more so in second gear.----------------seatbelt~on passender side binds up without provocation, limiting movement of passenger from the sholder, dealer said it was normal but it is not like the drivers side seatbelt tension that binds when there is actualy a stronger force opposing it.

Felt as if all of the sudden i lost all control of vehicle, and no corrective measures helped. While driving 60 mph the vehicles abs system failed which resulted in an accident. *nlm

I have 1999 isuzu rodeo. I got the abs keep running and got a light on problem recently and i got the abs diagnostic at dealer and they said i have abs short and need to replace abs module. I checked the recall on this vehicle and found abs recall starting 1998 model. I already have three accidents from extended stopping distances before. While driving vehicle, another vehicle pulled out in front of my vehicle which caused me to hit that vehicle head-on and during that time air bag did not deploy; also, replaced oxygen sensor/fuel sending unit/wiring harness processing assembly. *ak

The contact noticed something bouncing underneath the vehicle and then observed flames under the hood. She pulled to the side of the road. The police and fire departments were called to extinguish the fire and a report was filed. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The vin was unknown. Isuzu stated that the thermostat, water pump, and oil seals needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,090. While idling at a stop sign, the vehicle shut down and would not restart. The vehicle had to be towed. Currently, the vehicle will not start and the diagnosis was that the trolley failed and caused the timing chain to come off the engine. The failure caused the engine to expand. The contact was informed that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 01i002000 (engine and engine cooling:engine). The current and failure mileages were 77,000.

While stopping at a stop light the vehicle began to hesitate as if it were going to stall. The fire was first noticed on the front passenger side. Based on the fire departments investigation the fire started in the engine compartment. However, an arson investigator was contacted who determined the fire was electrical and started in an electrical box located near the battery. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the incident. In july 2000 consumer heard a pinging noise, and dealer discovered that catalytic converter and muffler needed to be replaced. In mar 2001, while driving 45 mph consumer heard a pinging sound, and noticed smoke coming from floor board near drivers feet.. It was a smoldering fire that burned a whole in floorboard. Dealer found catalytic converter had gotten so hot it started a fire. *ak

Lost control of vehicle which resulted in a front end collision. My speed was about 45 mph at time of impact. Vehicle ignited instantly. The flames were coming from under the hood, closest to the windshield on the passenger side. Was prompted by a relative to file a complaint. I was told that the vehicle should not have burned and should have had a cut-off for fuel line. The vehicle was totally consumed and exploded within what seemed like 5-15 min. On 2-2-05 i was invloved in a crash that was caused by a malfunction within a vehicle that i was driving. It was a 1999 isuzu rodeo. I had come to a stop, pulling into a parking space between two vehicles at a walgreens store in enid, oklahoma when suddenly the engine surged, the whole time i was fighting the acceleration with the brakes but they just made a noise similar to when you lock abs breaks on ice. The vehicle struck a brick pillar that collapsed on top on the vehicle almost killing me and injuring my lower/middle back in the process.the tires continued to spin even after i exited the vehicle, i have photos for proof. I am filing a lawsuit against isuzu motors of america for faulty products that resulted in the crash that almost took my life and injured my back. If you have any information please let me know. I'm twenty three years old and was not physically impaired at the time the wreck occured. This problem should be looked at and corrected before this happens to someone else.i have witnesses that can attest to what happened. Thank you for your time. *ak

The contact owns a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that as she was coasting to the right to stop on the shoulder, she observed that there was smoke in the cabin. The contact stated that after she stopped, she opened the driver's side passenger door and saw that smoke was emitting from under the passenger seat, which had been folded over in "cargo mode." The contact lifted the seat and saw that the seat back was melted, with a black spot in the center. The contact stated that she had a cooler in the back that was full of water, and she poured all of it behind and under the seat. The contact saw that the water evaporated. The contact then checked out outside of the vehicle to see if there was any heat source. The contact observed that flames had formed under the rear driver's side wheel well. The contact stated that a person who lived in the house near where she had stopped had observed what was happening and came out with a fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire. The fire department was not called. The contact had the vehicle towed to her residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V466000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) due to the location of the fuel tank, which was located on the driver's side rear, by the rear wheel well. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

2001 isuzu rodeo, with no prior damage, was warming up and caught fire. Apparently , a fuel line leak in the engine compartment was the cause. No warning whatsoever, and no prior mechanical work performed in the engine compartment relating to fuel lines. Apparently isuzu had a recall on fuel lines, but i'm told it doesn't apply to this vehicle. Nm

I recently was involved in an accident that i could not avoid. 2 weeks prior to the accident i received a recall in the mail for my abs module and brake system. Although my abs light was already on i assumed the recall was why. I took it in, they supposedly fixed it. I guess i was wrong. I drove up and told the gentleman that my abs light was still on, and i asked why he said that that wasn't part of the recall. My question is how can it not be part of the recall when it's part of the module. So i left it and decided to take it back when i can get the money to cover my co-pay. The i get in the accident, keep in mind that they just fixed my abs system and brakes. It had rained and i tried to stop to keep from hitting someone. It didn't work, i've had vehicles with abs before, so i know what they are suppose to do, and that didn't happen. I just slid and i mean slid into this guy. If the isuzu place where i took my vehicle to get fixed would have been fixed right the first time, i could have avoided this whole situation. But instead i got this whole story about hooking it up to a diagnostic machine &there could have been 30-40 different things wrong with it, and that would cost me $180.00. But instead i took it for granted that they fixed the recall defect. That's only my first complaint, i have had numerous problems with my gas in this vehicle. I took it in 2-4 times to get it fixed and all they do is a visual inspection, and tell me nothing is wrong. There is when i use 1/4 tank of gas going 12 miles.

While driving, vehicle accelerated suddenly and unexpectedly, resulting in a collision. Dealer has been contacted. This has been an intermittent problem. *ak consumer states that the intake manifold gasket was replaced, consumer was informed that the gaskets would cause the vehicle to jerk or bump once the vehicle was warmed up. *jb

Coming off of the intwerstate, the emgine cought on fire for no apparent reason. A fire truck had to put the flames out. The car was totaled.

While descending from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive/shifting into 2nd gear, vehicle accelerated, vehicle popped back into 4 wheel drive, causing accident. *sd

While traveling on interstate, back left of truck slumped to ground w/lugs still intact. Rear axle broke at wheel bearing. Truck rolled several times. *ak

Dt: the contact s owns a 1999 isuzu rodeo. He received a recall on 10-14-05 regarding the brakes on the vehicle. The contact has not taken the car ito dealer to have the recall repair work done. The contact's vehicle was involved in an accident one year ago. A child ran o in front of vehicle, he swerved to miss the child, hit the brak they did not work, and the vehicle hit a telephone pole. A police report was taken. He felt that the accident caused other damage to the car, such as transmission slipping. He noticed the transmission slipping about five months ago. Had to do a lot of repair work to the front end of the vehicle about five months ago air bags deployed ,and he has not had them installed again.*ak

Vehicle was parked on level ground and was running, the transmission was in park and it disengaged and took off

Vehicle accelerated while coasting causing vehicle to fish-tail and spin out. Once vehicle corrected brakes/abs did not engage (no pulse in brake pedal no squealing tires) resulting in vehicle careening of the road. *jb

This request is being submitted following a fatal accident that occurred this past summer involving a 1999 rodeo. The circumstances surrounding the accident are suspicious as the driver appeared to be unable to stop his car and traveled across an entire median of an interstate, hit another car head-on and burst into flames upon impact. The driver of the rodeo was my daughter's father and his cause of death was due to thermal burns. He was trapped in the car and burned to death. Questions: could brake failure have caused this accident? Are there reports of explosions/fires with the isuzu rodeo? Crash tests? The driver did not sustain life threatening injuries from the impact of the crash. He died because the vehicle exploded into flames and he was trapped in the vehicle. Have there been another reports filed with your organization with these circumstances? Please help. *ak

2003 isuzu rodeo 2wd- chronic intermittent problems w/ignition sticking in on position on cold start and engine revving high and hanging high 1700-2000 rpm's, with cooler damper weather, intermittent and more frequent ignition sticking problems graduating to ignition lock up after engine started: ignition locks, can't shut down and engine continues to rev at high rpm's 2000-2200, unanticipated engine power and propulsion. 1/27/04, cold start late am, ignition sticking in on position, engine revving high, then drops slowly, drove 45 mins, parked on warm start mid-day, ignition locked up, continued grinding on a started engine and engine continued to rev to 2200 rpm's and hang high, with excessive power to engine. Rpm dropped slowly, engaged in reverse, took foot off brake and immediately propelled backward at unexpected speed about 1+ car lengths into fence and tree. Excessive damage to rear of vehicle. Izusu dealer, royal of tucson, az, allegedly unable to duplicate on both services, (683 mi & 4747 mi)since inception before 683 miles; unwilling to warranty repair w/o duplication despite equipment failure and safety issues. Owner suspects faulty electrical/electronics failing to transmit from ignition to main computer, and possibly in between. Symptoms experienced by izuzu w/ auto's manufactured in 1989-1993 in an attempted recall effort by nat'l hwy safety council- ignition/ecu defects confirm symptoms customer reported to royal izusu dealer. *jb

Dt: the contact stated while the vehicle was at a certified dealership the abs brakes failed. The mechanic was backing the contact's vehicle out of the garage and the abs light illuminated. When the abs light illuminated the mechanic depressed the brake pedal. However, the abs did not engage. The vehicle crossed the road and ran through a garage door of another business. After the crash the ignition was turned off and restarted. Once the vehicle was restarted the abs light was not illuminating and the vehicle operated normally. The certified service dealer stated tissues an electrical problem ,and will be performing diagnostic testing on the vehicle. No repairs have been made at this time. A police a report was taken at the scene. Vehicle sustained minimum damage. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 isuzu rodeo. The contact observed smoke under the hood while driving 10 mph and immediately shut the engine off and got out of the vehicle. The fire department was called and by the time they arrived the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire department confirmed that it was an electrical fire. The vehicle was destroyed. No one was injured and a fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home so that a representative from the manufacturer could conduct an investigation. Claim#10041003 was filed with the isuzu manufacturer. The failure mileage was 119,000.

Dt*: the contact stated a fire erupted in the vehicle while driving. The vehicle had just been filled with fuel. While stopping at a stop light the vehicle began to hesitate as if it were going to stall. The fire was first noticed on the front passenger side. Based on the fire departments investigation the fire started in the engine compartment. However, an arson investigator was contacted who determined the fire was electrical and started in an electrical box located near the battery. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the incident. The police were alerted but did not arrive on the scene. Updated 04/04/06. *jb

While the vehicle was parked, it caught on fire on it's own. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection. The cause has not been determined at this time. Please provide further details. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 isuzu rodeo. While idling at a stop sign, smoke began emanating from the vehicle. The contact noticed that the entire electrical system was melted. The dealer stated that there was a recall on the electrical system for the 1998 model; however, the contact would have to pay $4,200 for the repair since his vehicle was excluded. The vehicle has not been repaired and the manufacturer would not assist. The failure and current mileages were 150,000.
