How to read a Genesis GV70 VIN — every digit explained

Every Genesis GV70 carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.

1–3 · WMI4T1
4–8 · VDSBF1FK
9 · Check5
10 · YearH
11 · PlantU
12–17 · Serial123456
  • WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. 4T1 = Toyota, built in the USA.
  • VDS (4–8) — model line, body style, engine & restraint system.
  • Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
  • Model year (10) — the year it was built. H = 2017.
  • Plant (11) — which factory assembled this GV70.
  • Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.

Model-year code (10th digit)

The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:

H2017 J2018 K2019 L2020 M2021 N2022 P2023 R2024 S2025 T2026

Where to find your GV70 VIN

  • Dashboard — driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside.
  • Driver's door jamb — on the manufacturer sticker when you open the door.
  • Paperwork — vehicle registration, title and insurance card.
  • Engine bay & frame — stamped on the firewall or chassis on many models.

2026 GV70

I leased a 2026 Electric GV70 from Genesis in June 2025. In January of 2026, when driving the car I got a warning sign to stop the vehicle and check the battery supply. At that point, the car went into sever power reduction and would only go 20 MPH or so. After 20-30 minutes, the car completely shut down and became inoperable. Luckily, I was near home and was able to get my car home. I had to have the vehicle towed on wheels as it was completely frozen to the dealership. They diagnosed it as a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). They replaced the ICCU but identified other issues that to this day are unresolved and my car is still in the shop. These cars were subject to a recall for ICCU failure but only to model year 2025. These ICCUs are continuing to fail on the 2026 models, and at an alarming rate. The head of service at the dealership told me they were dealing with "hundreds" of ICCU failures on Hyundai/Genesis vehicles. If I had been on a highway traveling at higher speeds and the car suddenly lost almost all power and would only drive for another few miles before completely shutting down, it would have created a dangerous situation. These cars need to be recalled - again. Hyundai/Genesis clearly dont know how to make electric cars/battery packs that work and should be held accountable. I believe they are downplaying this situation due to the prior recalls/class action lawsuits and dont want to experience further reputational damage.

2026 GV70

Without any warning, on March 15, 2026, I turned out of a parking lot onto a major road and I noticed it wouldn't accelerate above 20 mph, so I pulled off the road. I tried again and my vehicle still failed to accelerate. And on my third attempt, my vehicle decelerated and was about to completely stall. I managed to turn into a parking lot and avoid getting rear ended. However, this could have been a fatal event. While I was trying to accelerate, the vehicle was quiet as if the car wasn't even running. After shutting the engine off for awhile, I was able to drive the vehicle with caution. I reached out to two Genesis service departments regarding my vehicle failing to accelerate while driving and neither had heard any previous complaints, and the earliest appointment would be mid April. There was no sense of urgency, as I'm left to hesitantly drive my vehicle at the risk of it happening again and getting rear ended. And when my vehicle does go in for service, I'm weary whether the problem will be resolved properly since the service department is unaware of the issue. In addition, I have had this vehicle for only 4 months and 1 month into it, I already took it to service because of fuel odor that had not gone away since the day 1. But the service department didn't find anything wrong with the vehicle, so nothing was done to it. I also swung by another Genesis service department, in case they happened to be familiar with the cause of the odor. My vehicle still has the fuel odor and now I'm wondering if that is related to my vehicle not accelerating. I am seeking your assistance to ensure that the problems with my vehicle are confidently resolved. And I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. I am thankful, I was driving and not my teen.

2026 GV70

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Office of Defects Investigation 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE Washington, DC 20590 Subject: Safety Defect Complaint – Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) Failure Vehicle: 2026 Genesis GV70 Electrified (EV) VIN: [XXX] To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report a safety-related failure involving my 2026 Genesis Electrified GV70, which experienced a sudden “Check Electric Vehicle System” warning consistent with a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). Incident Summary On February 5, 2026, at approximately 4,480 miles, the vehicle displayed a “Check Electric Vehicle System” alert and was no longer safe to operate. Due to the risk of propulsion loss and electrical system malfunction, the vehicle required flatbed towing to an authorized Genesis dealership for evaluation. A dealership service advisor subsequently informed me that the vehicle has been diagnosed with an ICCU failure, a component responsible for charging the 12-volt battery and maintaining critical electrical systems. Failure of this component can result in loss of drivability, propulsion limitations, or vehicle shutdown, creating a significant roadway safety hazard. Safety Concern Failures of the ICCU have been widely reported across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis electric vehicles and have been the subject of prior recalls due to the potential for unexpected loss of motive power while driving. Despite prior recall actions, failures continue to occur, including in my vehicle. Current Status The vehicle remains out of service pending repair, and no written repair completion timeline has been provided. The failure rendered the vehicle unusable and required emergency towing. I respectfully request that the Office of Defects Investigation review continuing ICCU failures affecting Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia electric vehicles to determine whether additional corrective action or expanded remedies INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2026 GV70

While driving on the highway, the car shut down with no warning messages and gas fumes filled the interior of the car. I was not able to move over to a completely safe spot on the road because the car shut down so quickly. I was not able to put the windows down as there was no power to the car and unable to exit the car because I was not in a safe spot on the highway. I had to remain in the closed car inhaling the gas fumes. I called 911 and they had me sit in the sheriffs car until a tow truck came to keep me out of the fumes. The car was towed to the dealership, it had 53 miles on it. This event was extremely dangerous. It is currently at the service department of the dealership for repairs.

2025 GV70

My vehicle failed while in motion. I lost power to the vehicle and power steering. Just before the car failed, I heard a pop and a warning light came on that said "Check Electric Vehicle System". The car's ICCU failed and caused failures of the battery and 12v battery. My safety and everyone on the road around me's safety was put at risk when I lost the ability to accelerate or use power steering. The car was towed to a dealer and the dealer confirmed the issue. The ICCU failure and failure of the vehicle while in motion is directly related to a previous safety recall (025G) for which repair work was done on my vehicle. The recall repair was ineffective as the very issue it was intended to resolve still happened to me in a 1 year old car with only 8,000 miles.

2024 GV70

I moved my Genesis GV-70 to my home in Reno, NV. My complaint is in regard to my car becoming very dangerous! I'm giving you my move to Reno because its relevant to this complaint. I didn't need quick acceleration while I was living in Florida. In Reno, I have to merge onto Route 80 everywhere that I go. Acceleration during a merger is extremely important here in Reno. So what I've experienced in Reno is a VERY DANGEROUS situation with my Genesis. My GV-70 stops accelerating around 40MPH, or roughly 5,000 RPM. The transmission stalls out and the car revs at 5000 but does not respond. I've almost been rear ended by tractor trailers and other vehicles because of this dangerous situation. I have since found out that my recall for a ECM Software Update-P030X Misfire problem is the acceleration issue that I've described. Here is my complaint: My car should not be allowed to be driven in this current condition. Genesis has understated the severity of this issue dramatically and certainly the language in their recall letter didn't reference not being able to accelerate past 40 MPH/5,000 RPM. I didn't experience this issue while driving mostly local roads in Fort Myers Florida, but here in Reno, this car and it's condition is DANGEROUS! It has caused near misses with very catastrophic consequences. I am driving my car to Rocklin California (2 hours away) next week for service which includes the Misfire problem as well as other service issues. The Misfire recall should taken my car off the road, Genesis did not address the severity and dangerous possibilities of this issue.

2024 GV70

Pulling out of parking lot onto street and car would not accelerate beyond 10 miles a hr Pedal was to the floor and didn't change speed. Read on forum this is a known issue. Possibly fuel issue. No DTC code is issued. Dealer could not replicate, which I read on forum was known. Worried about this happening again or on highway.

2023 GV70

Several times now, my Genesis GV70 will make a strange sound on startup. The auto stop light will illuminate and I can't turn it off. The car will have no power to accelerate. I have to turn the car off and back on again for the problem to resolve.

2023 GV70

I purchased this vehicle brand new in July 2023. By Jan 2024, it was already having major issues. The 2 major issues with this vehicle are 1) it had an engine misfire ( thus engine and fuel system issues) that cut the power to the vehicle and made it dangerous to drive and thus had to be in at the Genesis dealer service center 3 times (Jan, April and May 2024). The 2nd problem is electrical. On Oct 1st, 2024 the brake lights wouldn't turn off at all despite several troubleshooting attempts. That electrical problem drained the battery and after the car was jump started, after I started to drive, then the car cold died in the middle of the road. I had my 10 day old newborn in the car and I had to get out and stop cars that were driving towards me. Attached is the repair invoice for the engine misfire earlier this year and the car is currently at the repair facility for the electrical problem so no invoice has been generated yet.

2023 GV70

I had just started the car and driven less than half a mile in a 35 MPH zone when the acceleration gave out. Vehicle would not go over 20 MPH, engine did not rev up when gas pedal depressed. I came to red light and stopped, turned off the car and turned it back on and issue seemed to clear. I google and have learned this model and year are being recalled for this issue and fuel pumps replaced, but my VIN does not show up as under the recall. I'm now afraid to drive my car.

2023 GV70

I purchased the vehicle on March 30, 2023, & my Check engine light has been on eleven times since June 2023. I was involved in a car accident on August 25, 2023, where the car appeared to have no gas. However, gas was in the vehicle, and the brakes were not operating correctly as I had to continue pumping the brakes to stop the vehicle. Furthermore, there is over $15k in damages and counting. I have been placed off work due to the injuries sustained in the vehicle accident due to the negligence of the manufacturer & dealer. I have left several messages for my Case Manager, [XXX] for several days, with unsuccessful attempts. [XXX] finally contacted me on 8/30/2023 @ 3:08 pm, apologizing for Genesis not living up to the “white glove” expectation advertised, and then she asked me what she could do for me. The call with [XXX] lasted 7-8 minutes. However, I constantly repeated myself, informing her of the information I stated in this email regarding my check engine light; my vehicle was serviced on Friday, June 30, 2023 (See Service History Below). Since then, the check engine light has illuminated nine other times with some of the same and or different codes. I had an appt to return my vehicle to the same dealership for the second time since June, as the dealership had the car for approximately eight/nine days. On August 12, 2023, I scheduled an appt. Per the system availability of August 25, 2023, @ 10 a.m. for Valet Pick-up. For confirmation of the scheduled appointment, I called GenesisCare on 8/23/2023, and the rep informed me that they did not have an appointment for me in the system. Furthermore, on several occasions, when I have attempted to make an appointment, the system does not recognize the appointment scheduled via the app or desktop. I was only informed about the technical issues with the software application via phone and desktop when I spoke with the service manager [XXX] ) Genesis of Atlanta. The accident occurred 8/25/2023. 2025 GV70

I am writing to formally escalate a serious unresolved issue with my Genesis vehicle and the service experience I have received from Genesis of Huntington. My vehicle has experienced repeated and dangerous malfunctions despite multiple repair attempts. The most concerning issue is that the vehicle suddenly stops functioning properly while driving, accompanied by all dashboard warning lights flashing. In order to continue driving, I have had to turn the vehicle off and restart it. The vehicle has been brought back to the dealership multiple times for the same problem. Each time I was informed that the issue had been repaired and that parts had been replaced. However, the problem continues to occur even after these repairs. One of the most alarming incidents occurred while I was driving from Huntington back to Queens with my wife and newborn child in the car. The vehicle malfunctioned again, forcing me to stop and restart the car while on the road. This situation created a serious safety risk for my family. Additionally, the vehicle has been kept by the dealership for extended periods during repair attempts. As of my most recent interaction, the dealership had the vehicle for nearly two weeks during the third repair attempt for the same issue. Despite this significant amount of time, the problem remains unresolved. Compounding the issue is the lack of communication from the dealership. My attempts to contact the service department and management for updates have often gone unanswered, leaving me without information regarding the status of my vehicle. At this point, I have lost confidence in the reliability of the vehicle and the ability of the dealership to properly diagnose and repair the issue. I respectfully request immediate intervention from Genesis Motor America to review this matter. Given the repeated repair attempts for the same defect and the safety concerns involved, I ask that Genesis consider a permanent resolution.

Loss of power, warning to check EV system.

2024 GV70

While driving an audible pop from the rear of the vehicle was heard. Upon hearing the pop the vehicle warning lights came on and a sudden loss of power reducing my maximum speed to 20 mile per hour. The electrical system failure warning came up on the screen and the car would not accelerate to over 20 miles per hour. The dealer stated it was a failed ICCU and fuse. This has been at the dealer for over 10 days without a return window provided. The car has 15,802 miles on it.

2024 GV70

The car has been shaking between 65-75mph and sometimes around 40-50mph since 9/7/2024. Car has been at the dealer service center 7 times, more then 30 days to attempt to resolve the issue, but nothing has worked. The last service visit they replaced the front axle. the car still shakes. I'm nervous something is going to fly off or a bolt is going to come loose from the shaking. I don't feel safe driving the car, but i don't have money to purchase another car. Genesis is aware of this safety issue and refuses to take action. I have a letter stating they were going to buy the car back by 12/15/2025, but they changed there mind. I guess they want people to drive unsafe cars. Don't buy a Genesis, Hyundai, or Kia. They don't stand by there word or seem to care if it affects there bank account.

2024 GV70

I was entering a highway when my vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. Complete loss of acceleration, audible and visual notifications on my dashboard that were difficult to read as I was dealing with a dangerous situation. I was fortunate that there was a pull out immediately ahead and no traffic that allowed me to quickly get to safety. Had I been further up the highway or on a freeway, my life and that of drivers around me would have been in imminent danger as this was sudden and unexpected. After I pulled out, my vehicle dashboard contained a message that read: Stop vehicle and check power supply. My vehicle's app presents two "Attention Needed" notifications: 1) CHASSIS DTC C160C87 and 2) CHASSIS DTC P1A9096. My vehicle is only 2 years old and had all recommended recalls and maintenance checked prior to this event.

2024 GV70

I moved to Reno, NV where I need to merge onto route 80 everyday. During several attempts to merge onto 80, my Genesis GV70 stopped accelerating at 42 MPH, roughly 5000 RPMs and I was almost rear ended on two occasions because of the 'stalling' of the vehicle. An 18 wheel truck almost hit me because I couldn't accelerate past 42 MPH. Luckily, I was able to pull off the road. There was no warning light or check engine light on the dashboard. This was not a one time issue. Everytime I tried to merge at high speeds the car would not respond. I've attached a video that shows the issue. Genesis towed my car to a dealer in Mountain View CA. I did notice that I was leaking radiator fluid in the days prior to my incidents but when I checked the overflow tank, it was full. Again, there were no check engine lights on the dash. The Mountain View Genesis service manager replicated the issue and discovered that a small rock had come through the bottom grill and damaged the intercooler radiator. He unequivocally stated that "it's a design flaw in the lower grill. The grill has such a wide opening that foreign objects can enter through the lower grill." He went on to say that the intercooler radiator sits below the regular radiator and is made of a softer metal than the regular radiator which makes is more susceptible to damage. He also said that another Genesis GV70 came into his shop the same day with the exact same issue. The cost of the repair was $2,200 dollars to replace the intercooler radiator. (the intercooler was on backorder which may be demand) I opened a case with Genesis and they say that the repair is not covered under a warranty. The Genesis owners forum has numerous complaints of 'lack of acceleration' issues. Someone polled owners and 28 people responded that they experienced a similar lack of acceleration dangerous situation. The contact owns a 2024 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the vehicle's gear shifter independently shifted from drive(D) to neutral(N). A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the gear shift selector switch needed to be replaced. The gear shift selector switch was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,500.

When I press the gas pedal halfway or 3/4 nothing happens - which is really bad in heavy traffic situations. On the highway, I floored it and the RPM was racing but it wouldn't shift up, so the engine was racing but there was no acceleration at all. I backed off and accelerated lightly, it would speed up. Scary. I have stomped on the accelerator it will rev to between 4 and 5 thousand rpms never up shifting or accelerating. Happens to frequently and I only have 11,000 miles on the vehicle. Genesis service can't locate the issue.

The vehicle has 1500 miles on it. I was driving around 40mph when the engine suddenly lost power and the immobilization light appeared. I was no longer able to accelerate. I coasted to a side street where the vehicle placed itself in Park. I restarted the vehicle and it worked. The next morning, the vehicle would not start and the immobilization light was present again. After checking the key fobs and battery, roadside assistance and I could not find the issue. Remote start from the app also did not work. It was towed to the dealer for assessment which is where it currently sits. If this happened on my regular highway route, I would possibly be stranded in the middle of the highway endangering me and others.

2025 GV70

I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my 2025 Genesis GV70 and to formally demand a replacement with an identical new vehicle of the same make and model. My current vehicle, which has approximately 3,100 miles on the odometer, experienced catastrophic safety failures on [XXX] in Northern Virginia that could easily have resulted in a severe accident. While driving on a very busy road, my vehicle suddenly became unable to accelerate beyond 5 miles per hour despite fully depressing the accelerator pedal. This dangerous malfunction forced me to pull over into a parking lot for safety. Upon attempting to restart the vehicle, I encountered another serious issue: the engine continued to turn over even after removing my finger from the ignition button. Due to these severe safety defects, I am explicitly requesting and will accept nothing less than a complete replacement with a new 2025 Genesis GV70 of identical trim and specifications. This request is non-negotiable given the serious nature of these safety failures and the potential risk to human life they represent. Vehicle Information: - Model: 2025 Genesis GV70 - VIN: [XXX] - P [XXX] ] - Current Mileage: 3,100 - Dealer: Genesis, Springfield, VA These dangerous malfunctions have rendered the vehicle unsafe to operate and unfit for its intended purpose. I require immediate action in the form of: 1. Complete replacement with a new, identical 2025 Genesis GV70 2. Coverage of all associated costs and fees related to the replacement 3. Written confirmation of this replacement within 10 business days I expect a prompt response detailing how and when this replacement will be executed. This safety incident has been documented and will be reported to all relevant consumer protection agencies. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am filing this formal complaint against Genesis Motor America (a division of Hyundai Motor America) for the repeated failure to repair my defective 2024 Genesis GV70. The vehicle has been a nightmare of safety hazards, financial ruin, and life degradation, with over 240 days out of service in 8 months. This saga began as a dream purchase, but quickly turned into a relentless horror story of mechanical and ADAS failures, dealer incompetence, and manufacturer indifference. The vehicle has been in the shop on six separate occasions under three (3) different dealers, with collective downtime exceeding 240 days, far surpassing Florida's Lemon Law thresholds (3+ repair attempts for the same defect or 15+ days out of service).

The braking system of my 2023 Genesis GV70 has exhibited recurring failures, specifically the brake pedal and the ABS module. Since February 2025, the vehicle had ongoing brake pedal issues that required approximately 30 days of repair, during which the ABS module was replaced on April 24, 2025. The vehicle remains available for inspection in its current “as-is” condition as per manufacturer instructions until the Event Data Recorder (EDR) data is retrieved. On May 4, 2025—just 10 days after the ABS module replacement—the vehicle was involved in an accident. The unresolved braking issues likely contributed to the crash, directly endangering driver safety and that of others on the road. The dealer addressed the brake pedal and ABS issues during repairs, but no definitive resolution or independent confirmation has been made regarding the root cause. The problem persists as a potential safety hazard. The vehicle has been inspected by Progressive Insurance representatives. Initially, Genesis verbally approved my insurer’s certified third-party expert to retrieve the EDR data. However, Genesis reversed this approval and now insists that only their internal vendor may access the data, which could take 6–8 weeks—delaying independent investigation and resolution. This restrictive approach obstructs transparency and raises concerns about the integrity of the investigation. It has been three weeks since the accident and Genesis has yet to take steps to have the vehicle inspected or scheduled inspection. The police were involved at the time of the accident. Warning signs related to the brake pedal and ABS system appeared from February 2025, prompting the repair period and ABS module replacement. No new warnings appeared immediately before the accident, but the ongoing brake system issues clearly signaled a safety concern. Genesis has made no progress or scheduling effort, deliberately delaying while blocking my insurer from hiring a third party for timely investigation.

I have been getting a number of safety warning lights since about 6 months after buying this car. It is new, under warranty and I am first owner. They were intermittent initially, but have become increasingly frequent and are now associated with a constant warning ping. I have taken the car to FitzGerald Genesis in Clearwater Florida 7 times for this problem. They can reproduce it (and have the codes) but they can not fix it (I took it to Crown Genesis of St. Pete twice for this problem) Genesis has not been interested in repurchasing this car under the lemon law - but offered me 2 car payments to sign a release of liability which I declined. They then called and asked if I could bring the car back for an 8th (really 10th) attempt to fix. They are aware that the safety features are not working (including Adaptive cruise control, lane sensing, forward collision detection, stability control among others) I am in Maine for the summer - but I arranged for a neighbor to drive the car to them. It was in an accident. I am offended that Genesis would ask anyone to drive that car in this unsafe condition. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The driver‑side display on my 2026 Genesis GV70 randomly goes black or becomes distorted. This defect is included in Recall No. 26V019. Despite this, Genesis Consumer Affairs and the dealership (Homestead Hyundai/Genesis) refuse to perform the required software update that corrects the issue, claiming the vehicle is “already updated” — a statement that directly contradicts the official Genesis documentation, which I personally obtained. Instead of applying the required software upgrade, the dealership replaced the monitor. The replacement failed in the exact same way, proving the issue is not hardware‑related. When the driver‑side display goes black, I lose critical driving information, creating a clear safety concern. They refuse to update software.

2025 GV70

The vehicle has experienced recurring malfunctions involving the electrical system, driver-assistance/safety systems, transmission, braking system, door access sensors, and starting system. Specific issues include sudden braking events, erratic lane assist steering intervention, transmission slipping and gear slamming, intermittent loss of exterior door sensor function, failure of rear hatch access, repeated no-start conditions, dashboard warning messages, and random activation or malfunction of safety sensors. The vehicle and all affected components remain available for inspection upon request. These failures created significant safety risks to myself and others due to unpredictable braking, steering interference, drivability concerns, and the possibility of becoming stranded during interstate travel and adverse weather conditions. Some issues have been reproduced intermittently and documented through dealership service visits, vehicle logs, photographs, videos, and communications with Genesis Consumer Affairs; however, the dealership has indicated that certain conditions were difficult to duplicate consistently, particularly because many failures occur during wet, cold, snowy, or icy weather conditions not present during inspection periods. The vehicle has been inspected by Genesis dealerships, Genesis Consumer Affairs representatives, towing personnel, and is currently involved in a BBB AUTO LINE case. Prior to several failures, warning symptoms included dashboard alerts, abnormal braking sensations, transmission hesitation, intermittent warning lights, service notifications, sensor malfunctions, and inconsistent electrical behavior, which first began appearing at approximately 26,000–30,000 miles and progressively worsened over time.

2025 GV70

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Driver assist systems, including lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance/braking system, and related exterior sensor systems, are malfunctioning. The lane assist system has taken unintended control of steering, and the braking system has activated without cause. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle has exhibited unintended braking and steering intervention during normal driving conditions. Most recently, the lane assist system abruptly jerked the steering wheel while passing a side road opening, forcing the vehicle into a curb and causing damage. These unpredictable actions create a high risk of collision, loss of vehicle control, or being struck by other vehicles, especially in active traffic conditions. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The vehicle was brought to the dealership for inspection; however, the issues were not reproduced during testing. Testing occurred under dry weather conditions, while the malfunctions primarily occur in wet, cold, snowy, or icy conditions. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Genesis dealership service department. Genesis Consumer Affairs has been notified and is aware of the reported issues. No other third-party inspections have been performed at this time. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There have been intermittent warning messages & dashboard indicator lights related to driver assist and system functionality. These warnings have appeared inconsistently and not always at the time of the malfunction. The problems began after 30K mi and returning to NY.

I was heading home early in the morning on 12/13/2025 to drop a few passengers on Springfield avenue heading east in Champaign IL (the Main Street) and the other vehicle came from 5th st heading north (5th street is a side street with a stop sign at that intersection). As I approached the intersection I saw the car come forward and then come to a complete stop before the intersection I assumed to look both ways. I was 10 feet away from the intersection when the car tried to speed across the intersection and I stomped on the brakes but it wasn’t enough to stop the collision from occurring while the FCA failed to kick in. The FCA frontal collision avoidance assist did not work when a car pulled out right in front of me. Since the car pulled out in front of me at the last second on a 25mph street my car collided into the reckless driver who had a stop sign and I had the right away. The car is currently in bad condition and the radiator got destroyed at the point of impact it’s currently at a collision repair center for inspection and repair. I gave a verbal explanation to the insurance company at this time there are photos to of the frontal area from the collision. There were no warnings that went off the night of the collision the FCA just failed to kick in resulting in an accident, when its primary job is stop a frontal collision it failed to do so.

They only drove the car briefly and did not adequately investigate the braking or steering issues. •No diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were found, contradicting the malfunctions I experienced. •Inspection by Others: •The car was assessed by my insurance company, who initially missed wheel damages, later correcting the report after I pointed it out. •I also reached out to Genesis customer care but received no comprehensive response regarding the ongoing safety issues. •Symptoms Prior to Failure: •On 11/9/2024, the check engine light illuminated, but by the time I could schedule an appointment, it disappeared. Previous brake and steering issues were noted but not adequately investigated.

2022 GV70

I experienced a significant safety issue while operating my vehicle. After initiating a turn, the vehicle's acceleration defaulted, causing it to reach speeds of 60 mph in just a few seconds. This rapid increase in speed resulted in the loss of control, leading the vehicle to crash into a guardrail. The incident raised serious concerns about the vehicle’s safety features, including the effectiveness of the acceleration system, braking mechanisms, and stability control. I recommend that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this issue to prevent future accidents and ensure better safety.

When slowly backing up my GV70 from a parking spot, on two occasions the brakes have slammed on. In both instances there were no cars in close proximity behind my vehicle and no hazard or obstacle was present.

2025 GV70

This is my second GV70 I had a 2024 and now a 2025. They had to buy back my first car due to the exact same issue. I was assured that the new model which I bought a different Hyundai in between the two GV70’s. I have owed over 100 cars and I truly love the Genesis but the SUV is Totally Unsafe to drive with the cruise control. The cruise control will slam on or firmly apply the breaks for zero reason. You will be driving no one around at all and the breaks come on. I have been almost rear ended several times. This happened the very first day I drove the car on I75. It happens daily that I am on I75 so I now only use the cruise control when there is no traffic. On my way to Lexington it happened 5 times. But now it’s getting worse. This will eventually kill somebody. I have been very nice but once I got tired of waiting for the dealership to do something about it I went to Genesis directly and now the dealership refuses to let me come back due to my complaint. The dealership Genesis of West Knoxville refuses to fix the problem and Genesis told me to go to the BBB. . Well the BBB is not the answer if someone dies due to this very serious situation. PLEASE help before someone dies. I have had two different dealerships service department people tell me they seen this before and even my first Genesis rep said this is an issue now they all say they never said it. And Genesis even took my advocate away and gave me a new one that I had for months and months and within a few days the new one said Genesis sees no reason to go any further. Thanks in advance for your help. Ron Garrett 931-303-4882

2025 GV70

On Feb. 2, While driving slowly in a school zone, with no cars in front of me, my car proceeded to abruptly brake over and over 5 times. The warning came on the dash "front end collision". I also had NO CONTROL over the car! I was extremely fortunate not to be rear ended during this event. At that time I immediately called my Genesis dealer who asked if it was snowing and often this can occur! What???? No it was NOT snowing and HOW could I drive a car knowing that this dangerous event can happen????? The Service Advisor was NOT very helpful, offered NO solutions and I was very scared driving my car home to say the least! Today, Feb. 3 (the next day following this incident) I called my Genesis dealer again asking for the Service Mgr. The car was now showed a warning light indicating a malfunction in the Active Air Flap system and the Service Mgr. informed me that the car is NOT SAFE to drive and they would tow it to the dealership.

The contact's spouse was unaware whether any warning lights were illuminated due to the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated, causing the vehicle to crash into a sidewalk and then into a ditch. No injuries were sustained at the time of the crash, and no medical attention was sought immediately following the incident. However, the contact later suffered neck and knee injuries. The contact's spouse stated that none of the air bags deployed during the crash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and was later deemed a total loss by an independent mechanic. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,100. The VIN was unavailable.

2025 GV70

2023 GV70

2024 GV70

The digital instrument cluster in my 2024 Genesis GV70 has failed multiple times while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on December 20, 2025 for instrument cluster malfunction. The vehicle remained in the shop for approximately four weeks, and the instrument cluster module was replaced. The vehicle was returned to me on January 19, 2026 with representation that the issue had been corrected. On February 8, 2026, only 20 days after the repair, the instrument cluster failed again while the vehicle was in operation. The panel was completely inoperative for approximately two hours. During the failure: Speedometer was not visible, Warning lights were not visible, Fuel gauge was not visible, Safety indicators were not visible, signal lights not working, Automatic Engine Start/Stop system control not working. Entire console goes out.  Operating a vehicle without access to critical driving information presents a safety hazard.

2023 GV70

The adaptive cruise control started pacing off vehicles in the right lane instead straight ahead. Then the vehicle's forward collision emergency brake system started engaging with no vehicles infront causing the vehicle to panic stop on its own for no reason. This panic stop could cause an accident, personal injury or death.

I came to red light and stopped, turned off the car and turned it back on and issue seemed to clear. I google and have learned this model and year are being recalled for this issue and fuel pumps replaced, but my VIN does not show up as under the recall. I'm now afraid to drive my car.

I was driving on the road when suddenly the car started an alarm sound, with the message in the heads up display to "stop immediately and check the brake system". I pulled over into the nearest side street and parked the car. When I put it back in drive, I had lost power steering, and half of the warning indicators had lit up, including but not limited to: power steering warning, brake warning, charging system warning, oil pressure warning, master warning light, parking brake and brake fluid warning, ABS Warning, and AWD warning. I tried holding down the parking brake button, and the first time all the lights went away for 5 seconds, but then they all came back again. I restarted the car a few times, and each time I got the same "check brake system" message as well as all the warning light symbols. I was not able to drive my car at all to remove it from in front of other peoples houses. I had to tow the car to the dealership, and the SOS button on the car did nothing. No warning lamps, messages, or similar symptoms had appeared prior to the failure, they all showed up after the "check brake system" alert appeared. 6 months ago I had another problem with the car, where past the speed of 30 MPH, the car would not shift gears up to a higher one. It kept increasing the RPMs when trying to go faster but would not shift gears, leaving me unable to safely match the speed of traffic and having to drive all the way to the dealership with my hazard lights on.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am submitting this complaint regarding a persistent and concerning issue with my brand-new 2025 Genesis GV70. Since shortly after purchasing the vehicle in April 2025, I’ve experienced a loud metal-to-metal noise when reversing down my driveway — an incline where the issue consistently presents itself. Timeline of Events: June 9, 2025 – I brought the car to the dealership service department, reporting the metal-on-metal braking sound. Despite the fact that the sound occurs every time I reverse down my driveway, I was told that the dealership could not replicate the issue and was told the noise was “normal.” July 8, 2025 – After escalating my concern to Genesis Customer Service, an arrangement was made for a service technician to pick up my vehicle for further investigation. I captured a video of the technician reversing the car from my driveway, clearly demonstrating the noise. July 10, 2025 – I was contacted again and told that no issues were found, and the braking noise was again dismissed as “normal.” However, I have since received a loaner Genesis GV70 (white in color), which does not exhibit the same noise when backing down the same driveway, proving that the issue is not characteristic of all GV70s. Supporting Evidence: I have video evidence comparing both vehicles (loaner vs. my own) reversing down the same driveway. My car (black GV70) emits a distinct metal-to-metal squealing noise, while the white loaner vehicle does not. The sound has been replicable and consistent since the beginning and raises concerns about the safety and long-term impact on the braking system. Request for NHTSA: I am concerned that this issue may indicate a defect in the braking system or component assembly that could worsen over time, compromise safety, or result in premature failure. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter further as a potential manufacturer defect in the braking system of the 2025 Genesis GV70

Been a loyal enthusiastic hyundai & genesis owner for 22 years. 6 santa fe's 3 genesis. Friday, august 30, 2024. Went to garage to start... "limited slip" warning and multiple driver assist warnings flashing on digital dashboard. Would not shift into gear. Towed to dealer saturday morning. Dealer has not looked at gv70 to diagnose in 7 days. 3 other genesis had been towed to the dealer as well and were sitting next to mine. Dealer is doing what they can but now have more than 3x service from recently closed genesis dealers in a 60-70 mile radius. Genesis differential issues are real and unresolved and affect a significant number of gv vehicles. Genesis dealer issues of taking on service from closed genesis dealers, no appointments for months, no loaners & unable to repair and/or multiple repairs for the same issue are real and affect a significant number of gv owners. These issues are now insurmountable for the near term and, at 72 years old, the "near term" is very important to me. Genesis and nhtsa are now well aware of these differential issues which can render the vehicle inoperable while driving or parked. A national recall is required as well as a "permanent" fix. Current dealerships are heavily impacted with picking up many additional service calls from closed genesis dealers. They do not have the capacity or the ability to permanently repair these issues in a timely manner. A national recall should be ordered by nhtsa / federal government and require a "timely permanent repair" or a full compensation immediate buyback.

2022 GV70

Lane keeping assist veers out of highway lane when an unlined entrance- exit appears. Vehicle is looking for the right line and swerves out of the lane to find it. Could cause a collision with an incoming vehicle. 2nd part the vehicle shimmies down the highway for the same reason when space between dashed lines appear. Constantly correcting itself. Solution would be a recall to reprogram all Hyundai and Genesis vehicles with lane following to only look at the left lines.

2022 GV70

The issue reported has been since day one having the vehicle. The hood shakes excessively, sometimes violently, while driving at highway speeds as well as at non-highway speeds if any significant headwind is present. This flapping creates uneven and unpredictable drag that affects the straight-line tracking of the vehicle under normal driving situations. These characteristics are exacerbated by turns at highway speeds and on surface streets on particularly windy days. As the hood rises, air enters the engine compartment and causes uneven pressure changes and an unpredictable swirling and turbulent flow of air that the vehicle is not designed to handle. These combined forces acting on the vehicle throw the lane assist, cruise control, and lane departure warning systems into fits. On more than one occasion I have had to 'fight' the vehicles inputs to stay on the desired track and to avoid departing the road. Aside from immediate safety concerns, the abnormal stresses imposed on the vehicle, components, and tires are causing wear at an unknown rate and a premature component failure is likely. Napleton Genesis attempted to adjust the hood on two occasions prior to claiming to put a new hood on the vehicle. After yielding no positive results, a remedy was sought by contacting Genesis Motor America. They claimed to not know of similar complaints. After several email and phone conversations the vehicle was sent to Pugi Genesis for another failed adjustment attempt. My suspicions that it is a design flaw relating to the 'Clamshell' design of the hood were confirmed by the contact below, who stated on a recorded line on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, that she received an email from 'the engineers' claiming that they are aware of the issue and that they will not follow up because 'it is fine'. The issue started 1/24/2022 9:30pm when the car steering wheel buttons features where off and 2 warning lights on. All self driving mode assistance where off. I took the car to Nashua Hyundai 140 Daniel Webster Hwy, Nashua, NH 03060 tel 603- 888- 8080, i believe was the week of the 31, and they ordered the 3 parts. They told me it was safe to drive the car. During Saturday 1/21 I drove to NYC to meet my cousins for my uncle funeral. I noticed that the car was slightly accelerating itself without no warning. On 1/22 Sunday returning home from NYC, I notice that I had to put the brakes more frequenty. On 1/27/2023, the 3 electric parts were installed and when leaving the dealer the car was not responding to the acceleration (it won run) and abruptly accelerated. Then at the highway US 3 South it started to reduce speed by itself (55/65 zone). Almost 2 car collide with me at the rear at they had to reduce speed abruptly. I returned to the dealer with the warning lights on. The technician plug the computer deffects detector and the system could not detect the error. The warning signs where off. He drove the car and there found the traction control coming on and off causing the car to accelerate and reduced speed by itself. I thought I was not going to make it as they were a lot of trucks near me when I was trying to drive and return to the dealer. I sworn to protect the public health since 2015, I am fulfilling that duty with this report to avoid preventable accident or death. I believe this car advance AI/ML system are blocking access to detection system to detect errors. Which could endanger findings of significant errors that can cause injuries or death while driving. All repairs documented are at the dealer and inside the car. The car still at the dealer as of today if you need to conduct an inspection 1/30,/2023. Also, the Genesis app is not recording malfunctioning until the dealer connect the system. Can a Genesis GV70 tow? Towing & payload

As an SUV, the Genesis GV70 is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.

What sets your GV70's tow & payload rating:

  • Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
  • Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
  • Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
  • Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.

Exact towing capacity, payload and GVWR are added per engine, drivetrain and trim — decode your VIN above, or check the driver's door-jamb and hitch labels. Curb weight from vehicle specifications.
