How to read a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIN — every digit explained
Every Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution carries a unique 17-character VIN stamped at the factory. Each position is a code — together they spell out where, when and how your car was built. Here's exactly what every digit means.
- WMI (1–3) — country & manufacturer. Tells you it's a Mitsubishi and the country it was built in.
- VDS (4–8) — model, body style, engine, trim & restraints. The 8th digit is the engine code.
- Check digit (9) — a math check that proves the VIN is genuine.
- Model year (10) — the year it was built (e.g. R = 2024, S = 2025).
- Plant (11) — which factory assembled this Lancer Evolution.
- Serial (12–17) — the unique sequential production number.
Model-year code (10th digit)
The 10th character is the model year. It cycles through letters and numbers, skipping I, O, Q, U, Z and 0 to avoid confusion:

(MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2002-2007 Lancer, 2004 Lancer Wagon, 2003-2006 Lancer Evolution, 2003-2006 Outlander and 2007-2013 Outlander V-6 vehicles originally sold in, or ever registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, the front lower control arms may detach due to the front cross member corroding from salt water exposure such as from road salt use.
Risk. A detached front control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix. MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front cross members. Depending on the level of existing corrosion, either a sealing/anti-corrosion agent will be applied or the front cross member will be replaced with a new one that has a sealing/anti-corrosion agent applied to it. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began January 2017. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-16-003.

Power Train 113 Read
On 09/15/2018 at roughly 11:30 am while operating my 2014 mitsubishi lancer evolution x with 32,xxx miles i experienced a loss of power, increased exhaust noise and the illumination of powertrain fault lights on the instrument cluster. After pulling off the roadway to inspect the issue a small engine bay fire had been found (chard paint/insulation and a still smoldering wiring harness). After ensuring that the fire was out and safe the vehicle was brought to the dealership that it had been purchased from (mangino mitsubishi of clifton park) and dropped off. The car is useless in its current state and had to be tow from the dealership to a storage facility where it has been ever since. But i refuse to report the damages to my insurance because i should not have to cover damages caused by bolts that were installed improperly at the factory. I have spoken with the technicians and service advisers at the dealership. They've informed me that a failure like this should never happen if the bolts are properly installed and that they don't see why it wouldn't be covered under warranty. It is my belief that mitsubishi is trying to avoid blemishing there reputation and is refusing to admit to a fault that caused a fire in a vehicle. I don't believe this is an appropriate way to run a business. It is unsafe and unethical and am asking for assistance to receive the benefits of the warranty that i paid for.
I bought my 2014 mitsubishi lancer in nov. 2014 at long lewis ford in florence, al, where i received all regular maintenance and service performances for it. On sept. 15, 2017, i was driving down the road in my 2014 mitsubishi lancer and experienced complete engine failure (while in motion), creating a safety hazard. Once the system failed, i could no longer accelerate and could only "coast" to try and find a safe spot to brake. When i opened the hood, the main relay had caught fire, was black, burnt up, and melted on the inside. I couldn't get my car to go in neutral or any systems to work to get it completely off the road, creating another safety hazard, and had to have it towed. A sales tech met me with a new relay that i purchased. The new relay did not get my car moving again because when the relay (that was in my car when i bought it) caught fire, it caused damage to the computer/ecm. When giving the part numbers from my relay and ecm/computer for replacements, the parts specialists and i realized that the part numbers for the computer/ecm matched only a 2015 computer/ecm, and there was not a matching part number for the relay as that exact one was unobtainable, and a different one that was compatible had to be purchased. I have recently learned that there is a recall for the 2015-2017 mitsubishi lancer relays because there is a defect in the relay which causes complete engine failure. I would appreciate an investigation being performed to see if the 2014 mitsubishi lancers should be included under this recall as i have experienced the same relay issue, safety hazard and concerns, and also due to the fact that my 2014 lancer has a 2015 system in it. I need to make certain whether the relay that was put in my 2014 lancer when built, and when replaced, was/is not defective. Please advise if i need to direct this safety concern to another appropriate administrator.
First incident occurred on 12/6/10 when the car had 11,000 miles on it. Sometimes when pressing the gas pedal, the engine revs up but the car doesn't move. This problem has happened about 25 times since i purchased the vehicle in november 2009. The vehicle issue has been reported to mitsubishi corporate and the vehicle has been taken in to dealership service centers several times. The service centers admit to knowing what the problem is but won't fix it unless the car acts up when they test drive it. Mitsubishi finally agreed to take my car in and provide me with a rental on 1/11/13 do to a recent accident due to the car defect but no promise to fix the problem was made. The problem with this car is widely reported online... Traveling on freeway in number 3 lane, front drive train locked up. Car skidded for approx 60 feet and than veered to the left and was struck in the number 1 lane. *kb
Without any prior warning lights or issues with the car. While i drove to work, about 10-15 miles away or 20 min drive, i came to a stop at a red light and when it turned green the car could not get into 2nd gear and would juts rev mostly in place. First gear didnt really have any pull. After a few seconds it finally took second gear but it jerked the car off causing it to stop very suddenly and thats when the service transmission light came on. I was stuck at the light for at least 5 minutes, can’t imagine that happening on the highway. I took the car to the dealership they said they found a code P183D which basically means i need a new transmission. This car has barely 90,000 miles and they are quoting me over $15,000 just for the parts. They privided me with a TSB which list my car as a year and model with known issue but told me the repairs are not covered by the manufacturer.
The ayc/acd pump on my vehicle stopped working. Vehicle on has 33,000 miles on it. The failure of this pump is well documented on the evolution x platform. There is current recalls for other evolution x years that should be expanded to include the 2015 model. The failure is do in part to corrosion caused by the location of the pump and the ability for water, snow and salt to get on and into the pump. My car is from the northeast where salt is a common thing in the winter. I believe this has caused the failure.
I purchased my vehicle with 200 miles on it at 700 miles took it in for latches and rattles. Since that hair every 8k mikes it needed a new clutch at 22k miles madter slave failed transmission started to give out at 28k miles. Please revive sawc every 1,000 miles i've owned that car mitsubishi stated no problems found at this time. But it was very noticeable once driven. I worked for elder mitsushitty and they refused my warranty since i didn't have enough cash in my bank account to cover the cost of a repair if the warty didn't cover it under the warranty for some reason i don't know why they wouldn't of. So i had to repossess this car due to the issues and car max purchased it and mission mitaubishi could not diag it even though carmax took it in for the transmission popping out of 4th gear. I am the only 2015 mitaubishi certified sales associate in austin texas. And the dealership neglected my concerns so i had to repo my vehicle and quit due to repairs hey where trying to force me to purchase another and roll over 20k upside down they sold a stolen evo for msrp of my used car. This evo killed me and no one knew how to simple work. Carfax has yet to sell it since mission mitaubishi could not diag something i could, or carmax. Also called fire department 6 times due to car smelled like raw fuel due to fuel leak 3 times taken to service in 3 years. Mechanic freaked out from the smell when i brought it in but was unable to locate fuel leak. I memorized the vin from how many times i took it into service.
Tensioner broke releasing the serpentine belt. Lost power steering, cooling and ac. Car stopped in the middle of the road. Immobile. Ended up taking ur to shop and they found the cracked tensioner and ruined belt that only had about 10k miles
Car has only been driven just under 6 months with no abuse and with just at 10,000 miles the clutch failed. The dealer and manufacturer claim wear item. If the car had 40,00 or more miles i might accept, but they built a can with an engine that produces over 300 ft.lbs. Of torque, and apparently installed a clutch and pressure plate that does not have adequate clamping and holding abilities for the engine in the car. The are claiming wear item and want approximately $2,000.00 for the repair of what i believe to be a defective or intentionally insufficient part to properly contain the output of the cars engine and are passing the cost on to the buyers. These are also not entry level cars and are advertised as high power, performance cars. Clutch began slipping while driving thereby creating an unsafe operating condition. An extended warranty was also purchased and the claim is being denied by both the manufacture, and the add on warranty company as wear items,
Cvt transmission; vehicle has 45k miles, no recall was recorded for my vin but i clearly experience the stated symptoms of the communication loss between the transmission. When accelerating from a stop there is a brief "hesitation " failure to move. When highway driving, attempting to accelerate to pass there is also "hesitation ". My last concern unmentioned by the manufacturer is the constant over-heating of the cvt transmission. In many forums around the world it's a constant issue, the consumer is forced to repair with aftermarket add on transmission coolers, fluid changes, etc. Most highways around my home require 70mph speed limits, i travel 50 miles for work each day, the over-heating has cost me time and money and local dealerships refuse to consider the work warranty. It's a factory defect in design and should be corrected via manufacturer responsibility.

My abs and asc lights have been on for a while. Took it to a mechanic and was told it wasnt a problem, just a faulty electrical system. One day, i was coming off an exit ramp trying to brake so i could turn but my brakes wouldnt engage so i slam on my brake and they locked up and my car slid and crashed into a median. Tired to steer away but it wouldnt turn.
2012 evo x gsr - from jba mitsubishi (glen burnie, md). At 31,651 miles - i was in a fast-food drive thru line ordering breakfast. That is, 0mph. All of a sudden, i hear a chime and see my instrument panel flash. My driving-mode/status light (which shows tarmac/snow/gravel) had turned off. Another light illuminated, saying '4wd service required'. My evo is 100% bone stock, no mods/tune. I call around and do some research. I check my fluids, tires (all 4, brand new, properly balanced), etc. A little while later, i discover that it is my ayc pump. This is a known issue with evo's and needs to be recalled. Luckily, mine went out just before warranty. Otherwise, it'd cost between $2500-$3k to fix on my own dime. I live in md - we get snow every single year. Apparently, the salt and weather changes can cause corrosion and damage to the pump. Mitsubishi offers a replacement (with 1yr, 12k mile warranty). But i've seen folks in canada who burn thru 3-4 pumps a year. Meaning just because of this 1 part, an evo is a terrible car to have in cold-weather states. Mitsubishi needs to recall this part - or offer to repair free whenever the pump goes out. Even with proper preventative maintenance - i do not want to pay $2500+ every time the pump goes out. *tr
The ayc pump failed by displaying a blinking tarmac light. It constantly flashes while driving. The ayc pump correlates with the steering and stability control for the rear differential. This is a big hazard. The ayc pump should be relocated to the trunk compartment so it is not exposed to weather conditions like snow and rain. This will protect the ayc pump from failing. The warranty will not cover this failed pump at all. *tr
The issue first presented itself as a flashing all wheel control indicator light at approximately 35,000 miles while on the highway. It was initially an intermittent issue that occurred only occasionally. I arrived home from my trip and was at the dealership at 36,200 miles. Their scanner indicated a c161e code which indicates an acd pump actuator lock. The dealership stated this can happen under aggressive driving conditions and was normal. However, after informing them the issue occurred while cruising on the highway and also when stopped at a light they informed me to return if the issue persisted. I returned a week later after i confirmed the issue occurred every time i drove the vehicle, but they were unable to read codes because their diagnostic tool had broken. At 37,000 miles the vehicle displayed a message indicating i needed to service the all wheel drive system. The nearby dealership's scanner was still broken. At 37,900 miles i arrived at a different dealership and they found the codes c161e and c161f which indicates an acd pump failure. During the time since the issue first began i also noticed the traction control didn't appear to function. In wet conditions when i lost traction i did not see the dash indicator for traction loss / traction control nor did i feel the system kick in to compensate. I believe this presents a potential safety issue. This appears to be a common and well documented issue, especially in areas of varying climate. The root cause in my scenario is most likely volatile local weather where winters involve heavily salted roads and temperatures that range from warm to below freezing in the same day. This can lead to premature pump failure due to a known issue with a pump seal and rust. *tr
Monday morning i warmed up my car for 5 minutes. Started to drive my car for about 15 seconds, awd service required popped up on my display. I stopped the car and brought it back home. Looked up what the issue could be and found out that the acd pump has failed. This is a well known problem from mitsubishi for these cars and they have not issued a recall or real fix. Without the acd pump functioning, there is a possibility that the car can lose traction in certain situations or damage the entire drivetrain system. Mitsubishi claims that its not part of the drivetrain so there is no warranty and it's also a "luxury" system. Controlling wheel traction is not a luxury its a safety feature. *tr
The ayc pump failed as noted by a trouble code. The ayc pump directly correlates with the steering and stability control for the rear differential. *tr
I had some warning lights come on for the asc and abs systems being disabled. I took it to the dealer and they said the abs pump was faulty and needed to be replaced for over $3000. I looked online and found several other people with the same issue of the brushes in the abs pump sticking. That same abs pump is used in some bmw and jeep models with numerous people reporting the same issue. The asc and abs systems seem like critical safety systems that should be covered for repairs due to the failure of a defective component. I would appreciate someone looking into this obvious safety issue. Thank you.
On-dash warning light of "4wd system service required" came on. This warning is indicative of a active center differential (acd) pump failure, generally due to corrosion from treated winter road surfaces and/or the inability to handle cold-weather climates. Car was previously serviced under a technical service bulletin (tsb) to delay activation of the acd pump for this exact reason 2 years prior to failure. Mitsubishi has yet to correct this manufacturing defect and is currently refusing to honor warranty service of failed pumps under their 5-year / 36,000-mile powertrain warranty, stating that the pump is not required for the vehicle to operate safely and properly. In contrast, a working acd pump directly effects the vehicle's handling, traction & steering - and all 3 driving parameters immediately behave differently when the pump shuts down in self-protection mode or has failed completely. This vehicle has a driver-selected setting for tarmac (pavement), gravel/rain & snow conditions - these settings are completely disabled when the acd pump has failed, or is failing (on-dash warning with pump in self-protection mode). This issue effects several models (lancer, lancer evolution, ralliart, etc.) from model year 2008 to 2014, and hundreds of instances of this issue have been documented in online forums (and probably several-fold that amount that haven't been discussed online). Please look into this issue immediately, thank you.
My lancer 2010 has only 30,400 original miles, the passenger air bag light is on, the anti lock brake light is on, stability control disabled by the anti lock light on, sometimes the light goes off and turns on when turning sharp right, and sometimes the light comes on with the vehicle not moving. Took the car to a dealer, they said the anti lock brake pump is defective and said it costs $1,800 to replace and said the air bag problem is no longer under warranty in puerto rico all lancer owners that i know have front wheel sensors issues also. The dealer took care of 3 recalls, 1. Eng belts and tensioner, 2. Etacs ecu, 3. Interior blower motor and i never received any recall notices. I have read a lot about these defects and many say that the passenger seat belt and air bag will turn the anti lock brake light on if there is a defect present. And many say that mitsubishi refuses to admit there is a problem with all these issues.

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 mitsubishi lancer evolution. While driving 65 mph, the rpms increased and metal fragments were found under the vehicle. The engine caught fire. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,900.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 mitsubishi lancer. The contact stated that burning fumes were emitted into the vehicle. The contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v562000 (engine). However, the parts needed were not available. The contact mentioned that the manufacturer had exceeded the reasonable amount of time for repair. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Needs a new motor. I know other 2015 Mitsubishi lancers were recalled for the same reason and this one should be also.
About 3 weeks ago I notice that the driver seat belt didn’t wanted to click to fasten the seat belt. I notice for sometime now that the car sometimes. Kind of stall then you have to step on the gas pedal to proceed and I’m afraid someone will hit me from the back because it doesn’t go when it’s suppose to also like when you turn it stalls and then you give it gas and it goes then

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 mitsubishi lancer. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. The contact indicated that the failure occurred with a half tank of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. Belt tensioner is bad and when accelerating makes noise especially when the vehicle is cold in the morning
On september 2, 2014, i purchased a 2014 mitsubishi lancer evolution gsr. On october 17, 2014, with a little over 2700 miles the service/maintenance light comes on and i drove the car to mitsubishi to have them check the car out. On october 21, 2014, i returned to dealer and the car was immediately was driven inside and placed on a lift to be inspected. I was told by the service manager that it would be a longer wait then expected due to mitsubishi's head office being located in california, and time zone difference. I was not given a loaner car, standard practice on a brand new vehicle with full warranty and he ( svr. Manager) did not give me any information while i waited. The next day, i received a call from vin from mitsubishi service department who told me mitsubishi, wants to get authorization from me to break down the cars engine/transmission in order to move forward and it would cost me $1100, if they saw that it wasn't a defect on mitsubishi's part. I gave the authorization and was called again by vin, who advised me that the car had a defective seal and the car is covered under warranty. On october 22, 2014, at about approx. 4:25pm i received a call from mitsubishi service department to give me a new update on the defective parts and repairs. Vin told me that the clutch & fly wheel had burned out and that mitsubishi was no longer going to cover repairs, which had now reached $3,200. This is an expensive car from mitsubshi; we bought it with 11 miles on it and it is inconceivable that a brand new car can have such defective problems. Mitsubishi is not upholding their responsibilities and we feel we have been sold a lemon. How can a vehicle go in for an oil leak and suddenly have all these major issues? October 27th i was told by the district manager of mitsubishi that the car was not going to be covered and mitsubishi told me to "do as you please." *tr

The headlights on the 15 lancer are ridiculously dim! I purchased my 15 lancer in october 15 and hit two deer within two months of having it! I had never hit anything since i started driving, over 8 years now, and all of a sudden when i get the lancer, i hit not one, but two deer! Something isn't right! I can barely see at night and now i hate driving at night when i used to love it! Something has got to be done about this!

When i accelerate the car stalls.and then it jerks when you do accelerate and this morning it stalled out on the highway and i almost got hit i have contacted the used car lot that i just purchased this car from to complain about this issue i've had the car for three days and i've called in 24 hours after i bought the car it's dangerous.in this happens in subdivisions it happens in residential areas on the highway every time you go to accelerate the car jerks and then acts like it wants to stall out and then this morning.
Vehicle will at random make a clicking noise, while all lights on dash will flicker on & off. If car is in drive, it will not shut off. However, when in park, if the clicking/flashing occurs, the car will shutoff & not turn back on. I have taken it to mitsubishi dealer several times, to which the problem was never solved. Car has been stalled out completely (will not turn on at all except clicking/flashing) for going on 2 weeks. Mitsubishi corporate will not assist as the dealer i bought it from is no longer in business. The dealer states it is the lojack componant (which was installed by dealer prior to my purchase in 2015). Lojack states it is not their product as it is self-sustaining & will not prohibit the battery of the vehilcle. Mitsubishi says its lojack shorting out the battery. The dealer i bought it from (city mitsubishi) was sold & is now northstar mitsubishi. Coporate refuses to assist, & the local dealers will not assist. My car is not operable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 mitsubishi lancer. While driving approximately 5 mph, the cellular telephone was connected to the cigarette outlet for charging. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
I didn't think nothing of it until it happened every single time i tried to talk with my bluetooth on. Every single time that i have my iphone 6s plus connected to my bluetooth on my 15 lancer, it always disconnects and then reconnects in a few seconds or right under a minute. At first i thought it might have been where i didn't have good service, but then it started happening when i was in town with perfect service! Something has to be done about this because like the last person's complaint about this, i cannot afford to lose important phone calls and all of my calls are important business calls! I hope others make enough complaints about this so that the manufacturer can do something to fix the problem!
There seems to be an issue with the bluetooth connection with the car and any cell phone i try to have connected with the car. Mitsubishi told me it was the cell phones fault not the car. So i went and bought an iphone 6s and got rid of my galaxy s5. To try and fix the problem but still the phone refuses to stay connected to the car. This creates a huge issue with talking and talking on the phone while driving. Some calls are extremely important i cannot simply stop the conversation due to the connection lost while driving. This causes a huge issue if you know what i mean. Traveling at speed and having to worry about keeping both hands on the wheel or get a ticket like in some states is a dilemma i face daily.
While driving the vehicle the headlights will turn off at random intervals. The passenger side rear tail light is out and remains out despite changing the bulb. Water leaks through a gap in the body into the light and the trunk. Headlights need to be reliable in order to ensure safety and visibility, especially at night and during inclement weather. My father is a retired auto mechanic and has been doing his best to troubleshoot the problem. I am experiencing financial hardship at the moment and I cannot afford to bring my vehicle anywhere that would charge. There are no warnings, the lights just stop working periodically and the tail light stopped working about a week ago.
Car was parked on the parking spot in the evening. Next morning car did not start for no reason. Etac ecu failure caused a return signal to be blocked on a communication channel wire. Also what was found later after a communication channel wire connections clean up, that a cooling fan started to run continuously all the time even when the car engine shut off.

My car caught fire last night and burned up while turned off, parked and unattended. Another similiar situation occurred: boise --- a vehicle recall you may not have heard about that could put you in danger. Imagine your car is parked in your garage and a fire erupts under the hood of it -- spreading to your home. It's a national safety recall announced by mitsubishi a few months ago that we found has affected many drivers since then and now possibly one local family. A boise home caught on fire last month and fire investigators say the cause was undetermined, but they say it started in or near a mitsubishi lancer parked in the garage -- a car that is included in the recall. Mitsubishi initiated the recall of certain crossovers and cars a few months ago and has added additional vehicles to its list since then. The national highway traffic safety administration says the vehicles contain a defective cruise control switch that could lead to a fire at any time, even while the vehicle is turned-off, parked and unattended. Across the country there are stories about the vehicles catching on fire. In minnesota, a 2008 mitsubishi lancer evolution parked in an attached garage started a fire and burned a home to the ground. In orlando, florida, a family lost everything when their house burned down because their 2009 mitsubishi outlander burst into flames. Boise fire investigators say a 2008 mitsubishi lancer was parked inside the garage and they were unable to pinpoint where the fire started because the hood of the car, the engine and the front of the garage were so badly damaged. The recall includes more than 5 vehicle models built from 2006 to now. Mitsubishi motors says it has contacted owners to notify them of any recalls. *tt

The smell of gas fumes while driving coming from a 2010 mitsubishi evolution touring. This happens either with the ac on or off, while standing in traffic or doing the speed limit or driving on the highway. The smells cause is not determined by any non-mitsubishi mechanic nor a mitsubishi mechanic. Getting dizzy because of the gas fumes coming from the car is a danger to the drivers, his or her company in the car and any person on the road. *kb
Very cold day out, about -15 f, warmed up my vehicle for about 5 minutes plus. Once i began driving, about 10 mph my service required light came on for my ayc pump. Dealer said that is was not covered under warranty of any kind. Mitsubishi has known that is a common issue in cold climates that use salt on the roads. The salt corrodes the pump and makes it faulty/malfunction. This is a safety item that needs to be recalled due to the knowledge that an evo driver handles their car [that they purchased as such] and looses that right with a faulty ayc pump. *tr
My 2006 mitsubishi evolution 9 started to make abnormal engine noises audible within the cab. The car has been serviced regularly and is more than well kept... The noise comes from within the timing belt cover and sounds much like a washing machine. This noise is also well documented among evo 9 owners. Here is a link to the thread. Http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/262773-ix-engine-idle-noise-belt-video.html it appears that the timing wheel rubs on the timing belt and causes this noise. The current fix is to replace your timing belt, crankshaft blade(timing wheel), and timing belt tensioner regardless of mileage or timing belt service intervals at the expense of the owner. If the timing belt were to fail from heat generated due to friction (rubbing) the engine would be damaged beyond repair (interference engine) not to mention the vehicle would be stranded... And the failure mode has a very high change of causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. A simple fmea would show this to be a glaring issue. To speak to how often this occurs...the sound is present any time the engine is idling, however belt failure from this issue could happen at any speed during any driving conditions/maneuvers. The local mitsubishi dealership is anything but helpful, and mitsubishi has not been forthcoming with solutions or fixes. *tr
In august i noticed a weird noise coming from the timing belt area of my car. The car was perfectly fine and driven normally. I started the car and the noise appeared out of nowhere. The noise sounds like a washing machine and is only present when the car is started up and is cold. After approximately 15 minutes of driving, the noise disappears. I am worried that there is something terribly wrong in that area. I do not want my engine to break. *tr
Loud noise coming from the timing belt area. Sounds like a faulty pulley or the belt rubbing on something. Took it into the dealer and they replaced the timing belt idler pulley. Before i left the dealership i told them i still hear the same sound just quieter. They told me if it gets louder to come back. That was about a month ago and it has gotten louder since. My concern is catastrophic engine failure. Nobody has been able to properly diagnose the issue. This could cause a serious accident if severe engine failure occurred at speed. *tr

I was involved in a accident and the air bag exploded. My concern is i was 47 and pretty good shape yet i had pain in my chest for over12 mo. I concerned people in less shape than me will never survice the imkpact of that airbag because i felt like i barely survived. Maybe this is the way it works i never had one hit me before but to this day i still feel a little pain.
Son was driving vehicle rear ended a vehicle, at 35 mph, rolled mitsubishi 8 to 9 times, sled on roof about 50 feet before coming to a stop up side down. Airbags never deployed. Not even when the tow truck flipped car right side up.
My car was recently wrecked going around the corner in the snow is it slid off the road into a telephone pole and the fire hydrant the airbags did not go off when we impact we were doing about 40 miles per hour. The car also did not turn itself off like it should have. *tr
The rear crossmember subframe is rusted out very badly, and has all the rear axel and components attached to it. This is very unacceptable for car that cost nearly 40 grand.
The contact owns a 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, there was an abnormally loud thumping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact pulled over the shoulder of the roadway. Upon inspection, the contact became aware that the front driver’s side wheel had caved inward from the top. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local independent mechanic where it was determined that the cross members were rusted. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
I got a service needed warning for the electric power steering and I lost all power steering... As it turned out, the rack and pinion was bad because the subframe rotted out where the rack and pinion mounts up and a custom built subframe and rack and pinion had to be installed on the car at a cost of almost $5,000...
Routine service at 112 Mitsubishi Dealer/Service Center noted that my front crossbar was severely corroded and “coming apart in chunks”. They noted that this defect is known and was recalled on later model years of my car, but not my 2011. Considering it was recalled already and is the same issue, I would recommend and hope the 2011 model year can also be included in the recall. It is available for inspection through mid September when I expect to repair it. There were no warnings leading up to this discovery of the defect, as it is structural. I am not an expert, but I would expect this advanced corrosion could fully compromise the car structure in a catastrophic way, resulting in an accident and/or injury.
The vehicle was chosen from a website called https://driveyourdream.truecar.com there was a select a dealer page that forwarded the price and payment plan to the selected dealer. The car was in extremely strange condition most likely was sitting a long time into a some kind of a vehicle storage. So far the car is working ok with the exception that the transmission, engine, gas pedal, gear-speed-clutch stick, are not functioning as expected by the standards approved by mitsubishi automotive usa. The car cannot accelerate properly and it is consuming too much gasoline and engine oil. There were several recalls about the car and they were done but the main problem regarding acceleration has not even been considered as a recall yet as far as i know.
Rented from hotwire at san juan airport. Car rental was hertz. While reversing from parking spot at hertz lot, roaches came out of dashboard. I stopped at the office to change car. Agents were not concerned. I asked for another car without the bugs and it took some time to get another car. I inspected it and didn't find any. I drove off. The next morning i drove to ponce and back that night. Drove up & down a steep mountain side. When i parked that night roaches came out of that car too. Called several numbers, was freaked out, and no one seemed concerned. My dad sprayed the car that night, cleaned it up and the next morning we drove back to hertz to get a new car. My concern was that if those bugs would have come out while i drove the mountainside, i probably would have killed myself if they did come out and crawled on me. Im familiar with the roads but for the tourist that rent cars there it is definitely a safety issue and something has to be done. *tr
My lancer is total white and the paint is coming completely off by itself where you could see the metal, it is like if the paint never adhered to the metal of the car. This is happening in front and back of the roof, where the roof meets the back panel, and on the ledge of the doors where the crystal goes in and at the beginning of the front hut of the car. I have seen a few cars with the same color and with the same problem in the same places, and this happen only in white cars.

All mitsubishi lancer evolution x models are having problems with the ayc acd pumps, this affects the stability and the handling of the vehicle specially in bad weather conditions because the system doesn't work properly in case of a slippery or bad road. The problem with this pumps begin with it's location because it receives dirt, water, snow and other elements that harm the pump. This should have a recall from mitsubishi because it failed due to a bad design and location of it and it can cause serious problems for drivers specially in bad weather conditions, i will like this concern could be taken in consideration for all of us that are mitsubishi lancer evolution owners, thanks
Started up one day and went to drive it and the all wheel drive pump had failed, caused a significant change in the handling of the vehicle.

Thank you.
My complaint is on the anti lock brake pump/motor on 2010 mitsubishi lancers. Iv read alot and talked to alot of people about this issue where at anytime the car ends up having a low or bad battery, and or any other issues causing lower then normal voltage. It sends a code to the abs module causing it to fail. Making your abs and engine light come on the dash. With that failure it stores the code and even after the electrical problems are fix you still can not clear the abs/brake code. The only fix to get ride of the lights and to get your abs pump/motor working again is to replace it with a brand new unit costing almost $3,000 dollars to mitsubishi. Hearing from other people with this issue, it is a defect from mitsubishi. This problem occured to me when my car was is park running, but have seen it happen to other people just driving down the road or highway ( in motion & stationary ) also with out this fix you cant not get your vehical passed in a state inspection
