On 3 occasions i was rear ended because of this and one time was with a huge sanitation truck with my children inside the car. I have taken this car to the dealer and the mitsubishi dealer to be looked at and help to no avail it still does it. Car during acceleration feels very jerky, safety issue as during turns if acceleration it might jerk make it feel a bit unknown of what speed it might be. additionally such jerkiness might cause driver to be kicked back into seat and head rest potentially causing injury. Feel like it might be CVT slipping at times.

Each time for the last year and a half that I have taken my car in for service or just stopped in and showed them that my radio is saying overheated current, they would test it and say that they couldn't recreate the error despite me showing that it would not connect my phone to the car or charge. I also reported having a random warning that my car was unleveled when driving and they said the computer shows no errors. When I last took my car in for an oil change 1/30/26 I had a break check done because my brakes acted like they didn't want to stop and were making a sound. They told me that my breaks and rotors were find and probably needed to be washed. The sound is louder now so i went to schedule my oil change and make the reports again to find out that the company closed down and there is no dealer close to my location. I filed a CFPB complaint due to the Mitsubishi telling me there is nothing they can do.

Whenever I was attempting to pull out into traffic the Outlander had little power to the point where in the middle of the turn it hesitated to accelerate so much that I was afraid I would get hit so I had no choice but to swerve over to the shoulder to avoid a collision.I took it to two different Mitsubishi dealers and were told by both that they could not find any problems with the transmission even though I know what I have been through with the lack of power ,hesitating, and noises that I have recorded on my phone coming from the transmission when I change gears.

In 2020 I got a recall for engine support from Mitsubishi. We took it in and told me that the support was find that I didn’t need to be replace even tho the recall called for it. They ended up putting rust paint on the support. 4 weeks ago that part broke on my wife when she was driving down the road. The steering wheel was taken out of my wife’s hand while driving. She was able to get the off the road safely. But sprained her wrist. When I found the broken part on the car. I call Mitsubishi themself. When I reported these issue, I was told that someone would be coming to my house to look at the car. I signed a form for them to do that. And for the to read the computer on my car. On september 2019 around 10:45 pm, mitsubishi outlander sport 2016 was the cause of garage fire at my house. The fire started in the engine /battery area after i had tried to give a jump start a day before but the car did not start. Fire was mostly contained under the hood. Since 2016, the car was mostly garaged and sparingly driven and had very very low miles not enough to get first service if i recall correctly. The interior still smells fresh car. I had registered the car with dmv as non operative status and did not renew my insurance as i was not driving the vehicle for quite some time. Even when i drove couple of time, mitsubishi smelled like rotten eggs especially when i would start or park after a short drive. I asked the local dealer and was not told to ignore it. I have few documents from dmv, insurance and photos that i will attach. I need to be totally reimbursed for the price of the car. I do have few loan payment receipts , if needed to prove. After the fire, neither home nor auto insurance will cover the damage of the car. The burnt car is sitting in my driveway. Please help asap.

I was driving on the highway when an active stability control service warning displayed on the dashboard. It was coupled with the check engine light and immediately caused my car to seize up making me momentarily lose control of the vehicle. As i regained control the vehicle continued to resist any acceleration while the rpms would frequently spike. I also lost anti-lock brake functionality with no dashboard warning. Through my mechanic i later found out the car was forcing itself into "limp mode" because the engine air flow sensor was giving a faulty reading. All of this put my car into conditions for a crash had i not acted quickly to avoid it. It also created a repair bill that was unnecessary as this is apparently part of a known technical service bulletin tsb-13-13-008. I find it inappropriate and irresponsible of mitsubishi to not have alerted me to the defect in the air flow sensor and filter box. It caused a needless dangerous driving condition and excess repairs.

I have had multiple issues with this SUV. The main issue I am writing this for is because the car was hit stopped at a red light by another car going over 40 mph. The car rolled back then slammed into my car again going just as fast. The airbags did not deploy and the seatbelts did not lock. The impact actually broke the seats the passenger and I were sitting in. There were extensive injuries that happened because of this. The SUV was deemed a total loss because of the extensive damage done to the car. There were no warning messages, no recalls, etc. The SUV was inspected by a mechanic and insurance company and both said that the airbags should have gone off and the seatbelts should have locked based on the amount of damage to the SUV. I also took this SUV into the Mitsubishi dealership for all services/maintenance and nothing ever came up about any issues.

I am unsure of the proper name of the component with issues. There are several little issues but the main is, I believe it would be a software issue... Basically, on several different occasions (4) while driving at 60 mph and over, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off completely with no warning. The one incident which was the very first while I was driving less than 1 month ago. I was on a two lane road/freeway with another passenger in the back seat going somewhere between 60 and 65 mph. The car went completely black and everything shut down the entire vehicle, engine and all. I was in complete shock and end up scraping my front left rim on the curb I was next to, damaging the vehicle as a result. I am just recently out of my warranty and I do not have the funds to have it looked at just yet. I did inform the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. I originally thought it was something maybe I had done to cause it. I also was completely unaware of any recalls on several of the year and model of my vehicle. When I looked up recalls on them, my vehicle has very similar issues to a lot of other cars like It that have already been recalled. I am upset because if I had known there were potential safety issues with these particular make and model car I would have not wanted to finance it, especially at the price point I have. It seems that several thousand were recalled a few months before I financed mine. Why wouldn’t I be notified that there could be potential safety issues when I was looking at the vehicle for purchase? Now here we are and I don’t think it is a safe vehicle. I need to do something.. I am not sure I want to keep it honestly ! What can I do? Please let me know at your earliest convenience. Respectfully, we bought our brand new 2016 outlander from the dealership this may. My wife rear ended a car less than a month later on the highway. She said the car didn't stop when she hit the brakes and that the brakes don't work. The car was repaired by geico for $20k damage paid and she said she wasn't driving it anymore. She had multiple injuries from the airbags and saw the doctor. After repairs, we ended up switching cars and the outlander became my car and i noticed that it seemed very heavy like it was surging forward and resisted stopping. Two months later i changed the oil on the other car, so i asked her to take the outlander just for the day. She didn't want to drive it, but i said just be very careful. She had a second accident that day on the highway causing $10k damages for repair and the air bags never deployed this time and her head, chest and knees hit hard against the steering wheel and dashboard and her back snapped and she is seeing a chiropractor now for the pain. She is a good driver and has never hit anyone from behind and now has done so two times in two months? Again she told me the car didn't stop when she stepped on the brakes. Last week we received a factory recall notice in the mail for the accelerator. I took the car in this saturday as soon as possible to have it repaired. When i drove the car after the repair and applied the brakes now in comparison to before it stops very well and is totally different. I believe mitsubishi's defective acceleration system is the cause of my wife's injuries to her head, back and knees. This accident is not my wife's fault at all. I am sure that this defect in the accelerator system was the cause of the accidents and i am asking the nhtsa to please rectify this with mitsubishi for us to find cause to be placed on mitsubishi's faulty vehicle not us. On march 6, 2018 i was involved in a crash. I rear ended another vehicle in slow moving bumper to bumper traffic. When i hit the brake the car began to slide straight forward. No pulsation from the anti-lock brakes. I was and am very surprised that my car did not stop in time. In the interim i settled my claim with my insurance company. On 3/29/2018. On 3/30/2018 i received a letter from mitsubishi telling me of an issue they call a "parking break" problem. I have asked several mechanics about the possible need to replace "the piston assembly of the rear brake caliper will be replaced with a countermeasure unit". I have bee assured this could have caused a failure to the anti-lock braking system. Because i no longer own the car i have notified allstate insurance of the present recall. If possible this should be an urgent recall. Sadly i have lost thousands of dollars and a record of 36 years of accident free driving. Please investigate

My 17-year old son was stopped at a stop sign. He waited until any oncoming cars had passed before he started to move out of the stop. He turned right out of the stop and onto the cross street. After only a few feet, my son notice the front of the vehicle was angled toward the curb & he tried to pull the wheel out of the angle and stepped on the brakes. The steering wheel would not turn AT ALL & the brakes didn't do anything. My son stepped on the brake pedal two more times and the vehicle DID NOT slow down or respond to this. The car went into the front steps of our local Police Station. Because he had about 40 feet from stop sign to impact, we estimate he had about 2 seconds to respond to this situation & could not have exceeded 10-15mph in that time. Upon impact, the air bag did not deploy. There was minimal property damage to the building, but the car was totaled. The entire front end was pushed in. My son was able to exit the vehicle and luckily did not have any sever injuries. We are writing this complaint because of existing safety recalls to the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport for all the years surrounding our 2017 model. These complaints all note engine stalling after complete stops. The engine stalls lead to unresponsive steering wheels, brakes that don't work, and airbags that don't deploy. We want this situation investigated as well.

On 05AUG25, my wife was involved in a frontal collision while driving our 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The vehicle struck another vehicle at an estimated speed of over 30 mph, resulting in significant damage to the front passenger side, including deformation of the hood and front quarter panel. Despite the severity of the impact, no airbags deployed. My wife was properly restrained and sustained visible bruising across her torso. She is currently in her second trimester of pregnancy. The seatbelt force alone presented a serious safety risk to her and our unborn child. There were no airbag system warning lights prior to the collision, and the SRS appeared to be functioning normally. The failure of the airbags to deploy under these conditions indicates a potential defect in the supplemental restraint system. This appears to be a dangerous failure of the airbag system. We are requesting a formal investigation into the SRS components and crash sensor functionality of this vehicle model.

This happens almost all the time - when driving at city street speed of 25 mph and under my car shakes so much and does not accelerate and feels like it is going to shut down. On 3 occasions i was rear ended because of this and one time was with a huge sanitation truck with my children inside the car. I have taken this car to the dealer and the mitsubishi dealer to be looked at and help to no avail it still does it. I have reported this to mitsubishi motors and was given a case number but to date no one has contacted me nor helped me. I am scared for the safety of my family and myself - it is a very scary situation and i just bought this car about a year ago. Help me because no one else does.

On friday, november 18, 2016, i was driving my wife's 2014 mitsubishi outlander sport. As i was pulling into a parking spot at the harris teeter grocery store located at 2019 s glenburnie road, new bern, nc. I was pulling into a parking spot on the left. Therefore, i had my foot on the brake to slowly pull into the spot. As i continued to move in a forward motion with my foot on the brake to come to a stop, the car suddenly lurched forward. I had not pulled completely into the spot at the time, so my foot would have still been on the brake. When our car lurched it then hit the car in front of us. The left side of our car impacted the left side of the car parked in the spot in front of the spot we were pulling into causing that car to roll out of its parking spot into the middle of the aisle in the parking lot. The car that was hit had quite a bit of damage to the front left fender of the car and the car had to be towed as it could not be driven. Our car's left fender also suffered damage and the radiator was busted. Our car also had to be towed from the lot. We are having the vehicle checked to see what made it lurch. And honestly, i will be afraid to drive the vehicle when it is fixed if they for some reason say they don't find a problem with it. I am uploading pictures of the damage done to both cars. I also received a citation for the accident and now have to go to court to clear this up. I will also be filing this complaint directly with mitsubishi motors. This was the first occurrence, but i wanted to report this before a situation like this happens again, possibly causing more injury or death.

I was parking my car and my foot was firmly on the brake. Just as i was going to shift my car into park, the engine revved and the car surged forward i was unable to stop the car, in spite of braking. The car jumped the curb in the parking lot and ended up stopping on top of a landscaping boulder. This stopped the car from moving forward as the front of the car was on top of the rock, but the engine was still revving as i put the car in park and turned off the ignition. Transmission pan and engine cradle damaged by collision. Had the landscaping boulder not been there, the car would have continued into the building in front of me.

I have some history in the past that the following day that i got the car from the dealer i returned it to them because i heared a popping sound on the engine part when i stop the engine, they said its just normal but with all the cars that i had i never experience this so unusual and the static on the car seat everytime i come out of the car i even transfer the static feel when somebody touch me i and after a week they put leather seat it is still the same what i did i put a rug on my seat that lessen the static.

I've had my routine maintenance done on this vehicle since i financed it back in june of 2019 which was at 47k miles. There was no issues, i had my last maintenance done in october at 70k miles. My transmission showed no signs of going out , there's no leakage of any sort. It just decided saturday, january 2 of 2021 that it was just going to go out. I took it to the dealership january 5th, and he told me it'll be $7035.09 to replace. I feel as though there should be a recall on this transmission just like the recalls for the 2016 models. The dash just now says transmission service required. It was so sudden! I was at 35mph and the car began to shudder upon acceleration while driving saturday. So, i had to drive at least 10miles back home at 20mph, because i wasn't sure of what the issue was at that moment. I had a mechanic check the transmission fluid and he says that there wasn't a drop of fluid in there. When i go get maintenance done i am trusting them to make sure i have everything checked in order for me to fell trust and be safe while driving a vehicle that i financed from them. I could've had a accident or anything. They've only checked what they were paid to do and that was the oil change without ever checking my transmission fluid. Theres no holes nor any leakage the code ran and says p084a transmission has internal damage. I've replaced the windshield wiper twice and the takes a while to defrost the wiper blades move slowly when turned to the max when theres a storm.

A nearby motorist was pointing to her and her car. She didn't know what to make of it, so she pulled over and examined her car and noticed a huge hole in her car sunroof. She had called me (husband) and told me what happened and advised her to continue to drive home slowly, so she activated her emergency lights and drove slow. Then shortly, she was pulled over by a cochise county deputy and asked her if she was in a car accident and told the deputy she was not involved in a car accident and told him what happened and was taken back by the sunroof damage. The deputy advised her she couldn't drive the vehicle because all the glass was falling onto the roadway. She said she would call me to get a tow truck and said he would follow her into town and said to go straight home in which she did right away.

They tighted the fuse and my lights came on. On 11/26/19, i was on the cross bronx high way in traffic and drove but could not stop the car. My brakes failed. I got off the highway and called the police and geico. The police did not come and i had the car towed to juniors automotive center in the bronx. My geico adjuster will inspect the car on 12/4/19. I should not be going through this. I know my car will eventually be repaired but i do not feel safe driving the car.

My mitsubishi outlander sport has a keyless start. There is no mechanism that prevents the vehicle accidentally being turned off while still in drive or reverse. On 5/30/19 at approximately 9:20 pm, i made a run to my local rite-aid. I turned of the ignition, but forgot to put it in park. I exited the store after approximately 5 minutes to find my car missing from the parking lot. I initially thought it had been stolen. The police found my vehicle after it had rolled out of the parking lot, into traffic and ended up crashing in a ditch. It had to be hauled out and sustained significant damage and may be a total loss. I can only be grateful that it did not collide into another vehicle,l or hit a pedestrian. This accident could have easily killed someone. There is no logical reason that a safety mechanism should not be a standard requirement in all push button start vehicles to prevent such a tragedy. The car rental i am currently using is a 2019 escalade. I tested the remote start in the escalade and no matter what gear i am in when i shut off the engine, it automatically defaults to park. It can be done and should be required!

As an SUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is built to tow and haul. The exact maximum towing capacity and payload depend on the engine, drivetrain and whether it has the factory tow package.

What sets your Outlander Sport's tow & payload rating:

  • Engine — a larger or turbocharged engine tows more than the base unit.
  • Drivetrain & axle — 4WD/AWD and the axle ratio shift the rating.
  • Tow package — the factory towing package (hitch, wiring, transmission cooler) raises the max.
  • Payload & GVWR — GVWR caps the combined load; more passengers and cargo lower how much you can tow.

Exact towing capacity, payload and GVWR are added per engine, drivetrain and trim — decode your VIN above, or check the driver's door-jamb and hitch labels. Curb weight from vehicle specifications.
